Arbil (Iraq) (AFP) - Turkish warplanes bombed military positions of Turkey's rebel Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK) in neighbouring Iraq Friday, a spokesman for the rebel organisation said. "At around 11:00 pm (2000 GMT) tonight, Turkish warplanes started bombing our positions near the border, accompanied by heavy artillery shelling," PKK spokesman in Iraq Bakhtiar Dogan told AFP. He said the strikes targeted mountain positions in the north of the Dohuk province, which is part of Iraq's northern autonomous region of Kurdistan.
Yahoo
Turkish warplanes have bombed military positions of Turkey's Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK) in neighbouring Iraq, a spokesman for the PKK has said. The air raids came just hours after Turkish warplanes pounded Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) positions in Syria on Friday morning, marking a significant shift in Ankara's position on how to deal with armed groups in Syria and Iraq. Idiots.
Idiots.
Why? Turkey doesn't exactly want a Kurdistan.
And thus why they are idiots. Kurds haven't essentially gotten nothing but shit for Turkey (amongst others) since forever, and that zero rationality for it other than general racism and wankery. And people wonder Kurds are generally distrustful of outsiders.
Why? Turkey doesn't exactly want a Kurdistan.
"bombing the enemy of my enemy is okay because i feel like doing it to prevent them from gaining anything out of it" that's called murder
Not surprising, not many nations in the middle east want a independent Kurdistan, when the dust settles from ISIS they'll turn their sights fully on the kurds.
Keep in mind that the article specifically states it's bombing Turkish rebel Kurds, not just Kurds in general.
Keep in mind that the article specifically states it's bombing Turkish rebel Kurds, not just Kurds in general.
I'd bet my left nut that's coming soon enough, I'm completely unsurprised by this.
Man, this feud between the kurds and the albanians have been going on for centuries. The kurds chased the albanians out of their country scattering them all over the globe. And since then they seem to not be the best of friends. Here in norway they get along fine, but when an albanian and a kurdish dude get into a discussion about this subject, it always gets heated very fast. Now imagine how heated it gets in their actual continent. It's their lack of submission which kills them. If they feel like this is the only way they can fix this horrible tale by killing eachother; Then we have no choice but to let them. Until the bigger kurd/albanian comes forth and shows humility.
Albanians as in people from the Balkan state of Albania on the coast of the Adriatic across from Italy...?
Well thanks professor. I'm not talking about those albanians. Albanians are all over the place and they may settle wherever they want.
Fuck Turkey. Fuck Iraq. Fuck everything. I know it has been said before but this whole region is a goddamn cesspool. The loss of the Ottomans has really sent this place reeling. Even the halfway civilized countries like Iran still straight up kill people and make it illegal to be gay and such. We should never have even bothered from square one. Fuck the Mongols for razing Baghdad and bringing mass instability to the region. Fuck Britain for creating this mess with their arbitrary border divisions (and just generally destroying half the world with colonialism, you fucking twits). And fuck us and the USSR for all the bullshit dickwaving and interventionist crap we pulled in the area just to undermine each other. And most of all, fuck the bigots who want to create and ethnic or sectarian war in the Middle East.
Well thanks professor. I'm not talking about those albanians. Albanians are all over the place and they may settle wherever they want.
Except that's where Albanians originally came from, it's absolutely nowhere near Kurdish territory.
Fuck that invaded part, that may be bs as i cant remember the whole story, BUT the rest is where it's at. I just know that the albanians have beef with the kurds because of some shit that went down a long time ago involving kurds fucking over albanians. I got this info from my kurdish friend some time ago so I'm writing by memory. damn smartasses.
Wait, do you mean Turks instead of Kurds?
I really feel bad for the Kurds. They've been shit on for centuries, and they're also pretty much one of the only forces actually driving Daesh back. They've got the majority of weight of the conflict on their shoulders. Turkey bombing them is retarded as fuck, i'm really beginning to hate the Turkish government.
Fuck that part. While there is importance in knowing why they hate eachother. It's not the point of the problem I addressed in my post. No one is going to change their minds. Unless they do it themselves. And they wont, It's really not in their nature. They live by the pride system big time and unless the west comes in with their liberal and humble way of thinking by shoving internet down their throats or something; then this war will never stop.

Frankly, I wouldn't be shocked if an independent Kurdistan is met with more violent hatred and armed assault than ISIS has ever received.
Frankly, I wouldn't be shocked if an independent Kurdistan is met with more violent hatred and armed assault than ISIS has ever received.
I didn't think turkeys government made any pains to hide their complacency with Isis, they've practically been threatened by all their allies with sanctions if they didn't tighten the boarder, now it's two years in and now they suddenly let their bases be used by the coalition forces, they've been the conduit for isis fighters since day 1
;48288899']Do you mean the Armenians maybe?
I think he means the Apaches
I think he means the Apaches
Before the current country named Albania formed, there already was such a nation and country, long long long time ago. I don't see how Kurds could have a beef with Albanians back then, because at the time afaik there were no Kurds or other nations that exist today for that matter.
Calm down facepunch, you dont know what this is about. This is retailation, and not about PKK/YPG influence in Syria, afaik. PKK attacked a military establishment in Adiyaman, murdered 2 policemen in Urfa in their homes, and started doing regular shit again. Action gets reaction. There is a slim chance that thisd be a mass scale invasion of northern syria and iraq. Very slim, but I wont count it out. Still, you better know the background, how this temporary de facto truce got destroyed by PKK first. And also, on unrelated news, ISIS declared war on Turkey.
The pkk is pretty influential in some of the Kurdish forces. Imo this is a move to weaken the Kurds and reduce the chance of Kurds getting their own state. Call me a cynic but Turkey just won't allow it. It was going to happen sooner or later anyway. If the us had to Pick between Kurds and Turkey it would pick Turkey every time And that's a choice they would have to make because the Kurds will expect their own state sooner out later.

I don't know much about the situation in Turkey but I'm pretty sure PKK is classified as a terrorist group.
PKK is a terrorist organization. Turkey has been fighting with PKK for like 30 years. They killed thousands of innocent civilians. I hate erdogan and I hate my country but media is portraying the situation really wrong.
The loss of the Ottomans has really sent this place reeling.
Even the whole Turkification programs and Armenian Genocide were okay then?
Yeah I also thought the reaction on FP was weird. I don't know much about the situation in Turkey but I'm pretty sure PKK is classified as a terrorist group.
They are classified as such and for good reason, because they have used suicide bombings of civilian areas as recently 2006. However, they've initiated a number of ceasefires which have removed them from attacking civilians- a promise they've made good on- while still targeting government institutions, military and police. There was also a notable ideological shift about 15 years ago which greatly diminished the group acting on terrorism and especially dissuaded them from targeting civilians. This sort of middle ground between guerrilla army and terrorist group has muddied the waters of its classification as a terrorist organization, as Wikipedia notes:
First designated in 2002, the PKK was ordered to be removed from the EU terror list on 3 April 2008 by the European Court of First Instance on the grounds that the EU failed to give a proper justification for listing it in the first place.[131] However, EU officials dismissed the ruling, stating that the PKK would remain on the list regardless of the legal decision.[132] Most European Union member states have not individually listed the PKK as a terrorist group. The United Nations only blacklists al-Qaeda, the Taliban, and affiliated groups and individuals, pursuant to UNSCR 1267.[133] As such, the PKK has never been designated as a terrorist organization by the UN, though three out of five permanent members of the United Nations Security Council treat it as such on an individual basis. The PKK is designated as a Foreign Terrorist Organization by the US State Department[134] and as a Proscribed Group by the UK Home Office.[135] Additionally, France prosecutes Kurdish-French activists and bans organizations connected to the PKK on terrorism-related charges,[136] having listed the group as a terrorist organization since 1993.[137] However, French courts often refuse to extradite captured individuals accused of PKK connections to Turkey due to technicalities in French law, frustrating Turkish authorities.[138] On the other hand, Russia has long ignored Turkish pressure to ban the PKK,[139] and the group is also not included in the official terror blacklist of China (PRC).[140] Notably, the government of Switzerland has explicitly rejected Turkish demands to blacklist the PKK,[155] though it has taken its own measures to monitor and restrict the group's activities on Swiss soil, including banning the collection of funds for the group in November 2008.[156]
