Self-driving cars are, or will be, significantly safer and better means to transport humans around. Studies have already shown they are much safer than human driven vehicles.

Actual autonomous vehicles (like Google's) are perfectly safe. Tesla's Autopilot isn't Autonomous, it's just a fancy cruise control with lane guidance
Honestly, the name should be rethought to represent this, Autopilot implies that it does more than it's capable of
These two messages - your vehicle can drive itself, but you may need to take over the controls at a moment's notice - create potential for driver confusion,
Who is actually confused by this; the meaning is clear, the driver must always be ready to take over if the autopilot fails.
I thought this was about autonomously cars, however its' actually about cruise control, so nevermind.
In the end I feel like I should just retract my statements knowing that our society will in the future be overpopulized with autonomous vehicles anyways and it will be amazing, but also has the potential of being terrifying.

Yes, but knowing the public this will never happen.
In a perfect world it'd be like this, but it isn't.
You're not supposed to drive while texting or on the phone either but a frightening amount of people still do that.
