I'd like some help for a build that would run the the Sims 3/World of Warcraft/Starcraft2. The budget is somewhere around $500 but I can go a bit over it. I'll be using Newegg to buy the parts. I already have CD/DVD drives, a monitor with a max resolution of 1280 by 1024, Windows Vista x64, and a keyboard/mouse combo.
What online retailer are you going to be purchasing from? Where are you located?
I will be using Newegg and in Missouri, USA.

While the 925 is $1 over budget. I'm sorry for going over budget. I can reduce it a little bit but it would not be as fast. Some of the components have mail in rebates so you might be able to reclaim some of the money over time. If you already have a decent case then you can knock the included case and the price would lower. So, what do you think Vertex?
Looks good! Could the case be changed? I'd like to make sure it's cooled properly and that case doesn't come with any fans. The budget could be increased to $550 for that to happen. It'll just take another day at work to cover that.

I found a case which seems to have a good amount of cooling potential. Unfortunatly this comes with a 120mm fan which you can remove if you want. This build totals out to $535! Does this satisfy you? Yes, this is perfect. Thank you very much doon! I do have a question, however. What is the thermal compound stuff I see included in many builds?
Yes, this is perfect. Thank you very much doon! I do have a question, however. What is the thermal compound stuff I see included in many builds?
Thermal compound is a compound that attempts to connect the heatsink to the cpu in order to achieve maximum thermal conductivity between the two without permanently sticking the two together. My definition is horrible as I don't exactly know the right words to explain it. I do know that retail box AMD cpu's usually come with a thermal pad on the bottom of the stock heatsink+fan which is the same thing, just on a pad. But they tend not to preform as great. But it should not matter. Also, no problem. I like helping people with computer related subjects best I can. tl;dr It creates a non-permanent thermal bond between the heatsink and the cpu its self. I could include it for $5 but then you should probably get a custom heatsink and fan otherwise it is pointless as you would have to remove the thermal pad on the stock heatsink and fan with alcohol... I cant say I'd recommend it for a first time build anyways, it simply isnt needed. [editline]16th December 2010[/editline] If you really want a custom cooler it will cost $32 more so it really isnt worth it to be honest. I don't even use a custom cooler. I use the stock cooler which came in the box.
