if you buy a hack for 500$ you may want to consider suicide
buying cheats is one thing, like, shit, if you really want to go far enough to cheat maybe you'll want a good one, but 500$? Is this for real?
It's probably 1-2 year sub.
This has included cheaters trying to get to Harton in real life. “Last year a person started a crowdfunding campaign to attend GDC and get to me in person. He asked for $10,000. Thankfully he only gathered like $300.”
Oh lord that is horrifying
Wow, people are really desperate to cheat, that is pathetic

Some people will do anything to win, it goes a bit beyond just trolling people.
It's even worse in CSGO..
Feels like i can't go a couple of games of casual without meeting 3 people who are wall hacking.

I personally blame the rise of e sports and competitive gaming to why cheating and hacking is becoming more common as it's lot more common than it was when I first started playing online games which was sometime before 2007 when e sports was only just becoming a thing.
When you make something into a competition somebody is always going to be trying to find a way to cheat at it like how people take illegal steroids to improve their performance even if they know what the shit does to their bodies over time.

E-sports have been a thing for longer than that though, Starcraft-tournaments wer pretty damn big already even in 2002 or something.
wow, 1.75 million in a year from selling game cheats? That's so fucking mental. I'm pretty certain I'm never gonna see that much income in a year in my entire life even with working my ass off. Pretty jarring

But it didn't become a widespread thing until fairly recently and they weren't as publicly advertised either. Nowadays you struggle to find a game that isn't at least trying to be competitive.
Hell sometime ago in World of Tanks, Wargaming took down an entire clan because most of it's members were using some kind of modpack that was being disturbed within that clan.
but 500$? Is this for real?
I'm wager that it's a pool of cheats, hacks, and a bunch of other shit, ULTRA-MEGA-VIP EDITION or some crap like that. I recall coming across an old pay hack site years ago, and memberships costed around 15-20 for a few months. It worked exactly like a game subscription, X money for Y time. Much like what I imagine is going on here, the higher tiers of subs cost more, but also unlock the whole pool of what the site has available plus like a year worth of sub time. Cheathappens does exactly that but costs much less, only they make trainers for single player games.
It's not quite as ridiculous as it sounds, but it's still pretty ridiculous.
