We began at 9:00 with some talker (funnily enough) talking about the persecution of the Jews. He was speaking about a family that had to send their daughter out of Germany to England, he then went on to reveal the daughter they sent was his mother. Having been built up by his emotional story, the plot-twist (What a twist) was pretty awesome. Then, after a break, the holocaust survivor walked in. He was a very small person, he was from Poland and was 13 at the time of Nazi Occupation. My writing at this time is pretty unstructured so I will keep it sweet and leave the questions to you and I will answer them to the best of my knowledge. He was sent to a ghetto, he was sent to slave worker camps in Poland and then he was sent to Auschwitz-Birkenau. He was then transferred to some other place where he was liberated by the Russians. None of his family except his brother survived. He now lives a happy life in England and now lives to tell this story to keep the memory of his family alive in him.
TL;DR - I hit my own dick with a hammer
I'm terribly sorry for my poor writing, I will answer any questions to the best of my ability.

His name was Mayer.
My grandmother also survived the holocaust, though she wasn’t Jewish but polish. People tend to forget that not only Jews suffered but many other ethnics.
So did he have to live in Soviet-occupied Poland and in Communist Poland or did he make it out before then?
I've also done this with my school. Pretty moving stuff. Shame that they'll all be gone in a few years.

Oh yeah. Out of the ~20 million killed, Jews only made up 6 million (wow, only 6 million, seems like I'm makign it seem insignificant, how terrible). Homosexuals, communists, Poles, Slavs, pagans, gypsies, all were sent to camps. Terrible. It didn't help that many were then deported to Gulags after the war. Out of the frying pan and into the fire, I suppose.
Wow, that must've been great to meet a Holocaust survivor.
Do you know which camp he was in? My grandfather liberated a concentration camp.

Most americans only know that 6 million Jews died in WWII, but don't know the number of allies.
:downs: in my opinion.
I remember for a history excursion we went to the Holocaust Museum. They had quite a lot of survivors there, and they all talked about their experiences.
One of them had to pretend to be a nazi youth when he was escaping to France, and he survived the death march. When the Germans evacuated the Death Camps and walked the prisoners on a Death Match, he collapsed and they thought he was dead and left him. He was later found by Russian soldiers and was saved.
A person that lived in the woods of Siberia during the holocaust talked at a Holocaust center on our field trip.

I never heard 20 million, I always thought it was 10.
Someone around the corner from me is a Holocaust survivor.
We watched a DVD he made with a local media group in history.
It was pretty interesting.

My late grandfather liberated Dachau and took a bunch of pictures. I still have 'em

Welcome to public schooling.

Pro tip: Barely half of those 6 million were Jewish.
If you don't know what to do with them, (and if they're any good,) upload them to Wikipedia and put them in the public domain.
…to fight against those damn Holocaust deniers, or something. :v:

Damn mobile messing up my quotes. Talking to Farenheit here.
My grandpa was sent to one of the American internment camps for Japanese Americans during WWII.
My grandad died in a concentration camp, he fell off the guard tower.
I'm joking.
He only broke his leg.
I got to meet Laszlo Berkowits at my school.
I read his book too. http://www.amazon.com/Boy-Who-Lost-His-Birthday/dp/0761840664
I met one a year or two ago at the Holocaust museum near me. A Polish woman, who was at Bergen-Belsen when it got stormed.
I really can't believe some people think the Holocaust never happened. It's really sad.
He's willing to talk about it? Huh. I know a Polish guy who was in a concentration camp and he'll kick your ass if you as much as mention that Germany exists.
:godwin:
So, when does National Socialism come back? Anyone?
Zionists got as much as they could out of WWII.
