What it will be used for: - Light to medium gaming - WoW, etc. - Rendering - Photoshop, websurfing. Basically casual use. - Movies! Blu-Ray and everything that is high quality that would destroy a normal computer. Budget of £1500 includes everything - Monitor, mouse, keyboard, casing, OS, etc. It should last at least couple of years. Some light upgrades are allowed, but nothing too major please. Prolong its' lifespan for as long as possible. Specific reqs. - A nice case is preferred. - Monitor should be >21 inches. - No SSDs. If you can't utilize the whole budget, you can start upgrading the parts to better ones and try to use all of it. If you deem things like thermal paste or better coolers necessary, go ahead.
How much HDD space are you likely to use?
Umm, I'd say maybe 1TB?
For what your looking for, you could build with less then half your budget.
Rendering.
For what your looking for, you could build with less then half your budget.
Use as much as you can. Remember, it must be futureproof'd.
Probably an i5/i7 system with a 5770/5870 orso if you want it to be future proof.
Well, can anyone help? I have no idea what to start with for a computer for rendering and casual use.
Well, can anyone help? I have no idea what to start with for a computer for rendering and casual use.
I do a lot of rendering & simulations and an i7 860 does it's job great.

AMD is going to use the AM3 socket again for their hexacore.

Yeah, and a motherboard with four AM3 sockets.. That'll kick ass..
Intel damn it, I'm still with the 775. It seems with every new processor there is a new Motherboard these days. :|
