Okay well not much information on it so far but its going to be a movie about the Ultra Marines. Thats right lots of blood and slaughter for the Emperor! Here's the kickass link with no media content what so ever. http://www.ultramarinesthemovie.com/ It seems like its going to be made by Codex Pictures judging by the logo at the bottom. Never heard of them though. I seriously hope they deliver and deliver well! The only thing you can do right now is sign up for updates :/ Credits to Acezorz for digging this up from the Codex Pictures website!
Ultramarines is a 70-minute sci-fi thriller that will use CGI and state-of-the-art animation production techniques. Games Workshop is delighted to be working with UK-based production company Codex Pictures, who have the momentous task of bringing the Warhammer 40,000 universe to the screen. Commenting on the news, Erik Mogensen, Licensing and Acquired Rights Manager for Games Workshop, said, “Over the years, we have been approached again and again by all sorts of producers and film companies wanting to take our intellectual property to the screen. We have always believed that, in the right hands, the stories, themes and characters from the Warhammer 40,000 universe would lend themselves perfectly to the movie genre. We’re working closely with the talented team at Codex Pictures, who have an excellent understanding of the Warhammer 40,000 intellectual property and an inspired vision for the movie. We can’t wait to see our universe come to life on-screen.” “We’re hugely honoured to be making Ultramarines,” said a spokesman for Codex Pictures. “It’s taken a lot of research and development to get to this stage – and it’s such an exciting challenge to be able to bring the depth and power of the Warhammer 40,000 universe to a brand new medium.” News of the production of a movie was unveiled at UK Games Day, the biggest event in the Games Workshop calendar, on Sunday, September 27 2009.
Also just to let everyone know we have a Warhammer40k Sub forum! If you have subscribed to the site you will have received an email today! It appears Dan Abnett (author of a lot of influential 40k novels such as Eisenhorn and Ravenor) will be writing the Ultramarines movie!
In the first of a series of occasional guest blog posts on what is going on behind the scenes of the movie, Dan Abnett finally is able to talk about his screenplay for the ULTRAMARINES movie. At last! It has been announced! I can finally talk about being the screenwriter for the Warhammer 40,000 movie! I’ve actually been busting to say something about this for ages! Inevitably, projects such as this take a long time to get an official start, and involve a lot of confidentiality too. I had to smile innocently at Games Day at the end of September when it was officially announced, and pretend it was all news to me. Moar news!
ULTRAMARINES: Codex Pictures Announce Director and Writer! Codex Pictures revealed today the director and screenwriter for the forthcoming Warhammer 40,000 movie ULTRAMARINES. The director is Martyn Pick, whose credits include the 2009 film The Age of Stupid, on which he was animation director; London 2012, the promotional film commissioned by Film London and the London Development Agency which was premiered at the Beijing Olympics; the 2001 US Budweiser NBA commercial; and the celebrated BBC promotional trailers for the Euro 2004 soccer tournament. Martyn was chosen to direct Ultramarines for his renowned and highly distinctive ability to fuse live action and animation and the fluid, rich painterly style of his film-making. The screenplay has been written by someone who needs no introduction to Warhammer 40,000 fans – best-selling author Dan Abnett. Dan has penned more than 25 books for Games Workshop’s Black Library, with total sales in excess of 1.2 million copies. He also works regularly for 2000 AD, Marvel Comics and DC Comics and has recently seen publication of the first of three novels for HarperCollins' new sci-fi, fantasy and horror imprint, Angry Robot. ULTRAMARINES, a sci-fi thriller employing CGI and state-of-the-art production techniques, is being produced by Codex Pictures in association with Good Story Productions Ltd. The Canadian co-producer is POP6 Studios. The artwork revealed is for the entrance to the Codex Chapel. Bob Thompson, producer of ULTRAMARINES, says, ‘One of the many challenges in bringing the Warhammer 40k universe to the screen is to make a natural transition from table-top game to film reality. Our art and design team have used extensive source material from Games Workshop’s Forge World and publications to ensure every element of the movie is as authentic as possible’. ‘Before the animation team begins work, our next steps are recording the characters’ voices and producing the storyboards’, he added. Codex Pictures sounds like it'd be an inhouse Games Workshops deal. Won't start caring about this until they get a trailer out.
I hear it's going to be much like the CGI intro for Dawn of War 2. If that's the case I think this is going to be bloody awesome. This is awesome, Mechwarrior and Warhammer 40k, my two favourite franchises that I find out have movies in production on the same day!
Codex Pictures sounds like it'd be an inhouse Games Workshops deal.
It's not. I'm not all that excited for it really, which is odd for me, partly for a few reaons. 1. Ultramarines, nuff said. 2. It's being made by a company who previously made bionicle, i doubt they can best capture the grimdark and ultraviolent nature of Space Marines. 3. It's a sci fi thriller, any film that has space marines should be sci fi gratuitous action.
Here's some more information I dug out from the Codex Pictures website:
Ultramarines is a 70-minute sci-fi thriller that will use CGI and state-of-the-art animation production techniques. They went with the most hackneyed space marine chapter.
Pfft, Ultramarines. Where the fuck are my Blood Ravens? It's going to suck either way.
Pfft, Ultramarines. Where the fuck are my Blood Ravens?
Off trying to find their thunderhawk, they could have sworn they parked it right here!
I think it might do well. Everyone is already pessimistic, and they have barely released any info.
oh dear, well we need to wait and see before judging.
Where's my movie about Tau? It must be made! For the Greater Good! :sigh: Why are Space Marines so popular...?
I think there's enough coverage on the Blood Ravens from the games. I'd love to see a movie based on the Grey Knights, though.
I think it might do well. Everyone is already pessimistic, and they have barely released any info.
it's a movie about Space Marines and being done by a company nobody has ever heard about. of course people are going to think it'll suck right away.
Where's my movie about Tau? It must be made! For the Greater Good! :sigh: Why are Space Marines so popular...?
The Tau habe an empire < > big, hardly worth even mentioning. 8 foot tall, armour plated killing machines, what's not to like? (Psst, did anyone actually get my blood ravens joke?)
I think visually, it's going to look amazing, based on the quality of the CGI for the game intro.
Hell, even the first DOW intro was damned quality.
Rather see some Blood Ravens on screen, but, as long as there is a gratuitous amount of violence, I'll forgive them.
Fucking SPES MAHREENS, fuck off, they need to get off their collective high-horse and live a day in the life of an Imperial Guard trooper.
Where's my movie about Tau? It must be made! For the Greater Good! :sigh: Why are Space Marines so popular...?
Space Marines are the main selling point of Games-Workshop, it's what started Warhammer 40k. And I like Ultramarines, their background is nice. They're proper marines, everyone has obsession with Space Marines with big dark secrets are something flawed with them, Ultramarines are standard marines which should be used in a film that is not trying to overload you with background knowledge. Though I don't like the company they have chosen to make the film, Bionics? I don't trust the hands of a grimdark CGI film in the hands of someone who's selling point was towards 5 year olds. A good thing atleast is this thing is going straight to DVD and not theater. Now its time to show Ultramarines in glory:
Blood Ravens would forget why they're there halfway through the film. Space Wolves > Smurfs or the Blood Alzheimers..er..Ravens
How about Space Wolves? :3:
Blood Ravens would forget why they're there halfway through the film. Space Wolves > Smurfs or the Blood Alzheimers..er..Ravens
Sure, when it comes down to who is the coolest chapter, but it is obvious this film will be directed at getting people into the hobby as a start, and they need a chapter that is bog standard. If they used Space Wolfs then they'd presume all Space Marines are wolf vikings.
Blood Ravens would forget why they're there halfway through the film. Space Wolves > Smurfs or the Blood Alzheimers..er..Ravens
Oh God yes, the Space Wolves.

Throw in the Ultramarines demanding something from the wolves and the wolves telling them to spin on it.
regardless all Space Marines are over rated. Where's the movie about the Imperial Guard? We need some Harakoni Warhawks up in this bitch.
Yes because we want lengthy introductions to characters who die in the first few seconds. 1 and 1/2 hour build up, 3 seconds to kill off the entire regiment.
It shall suck.
regardless all Space Marines are over rated. Where's the movie about the Imperial Guard? Hell, the very nature of Spess Mahreens allows them to come across the Imperial Guard.
