SLOVYANSK, Ukraine — Ukrainian forces moved Thursday against pro-Russian forces manning checkpoints outside this eastern Ukraine city, killing and wounding a still undetermined number of people and prompting Russia to launch what the country’s defense minister said were military exercises along the Ukrainian border.
The moves sharply raised tensions in the developing crisis. In Moscow, President Vladimir V. Putin of Russia, answering questions at a public forum in St. Petersburg, said any fighting would have an impact on Ukraine’s relations with Russia and would prove that Russia was justified in interfering in Crimea.
“If, in fact, the Kiev regime has started to use the armed forces against people inside the country, then, with no doubt, it is a serious crime against their own nation,” Mr. Putin said at a forum for regional reporters and media figures that was broadcast live on Rossiya 24 television.
Derp let's forget about the Berkut killing people at the orders of the pro-russian Yanukovich government.
Kiev, Ukraine (CNN) -- Ukrainian forces killed five militants during operations to take down pro-Russians' roadblocks in Slavyansk on Thursday, the Ukrainian Interior Ministry said, in what appeared to be a significant escalation of violence in the country.
At the same time, Russia and the West continued their war of words over the handling of the crisis.
Russian President Vladimir Putin said that if the Kiev government "has started to use the army against the population inside the country, it, beyond any doubt, is a very serious crime."
This would "have consequences" for those making the decisions, and for relations between the two governments, Putin said at a media forum Thursday, according to Russian state TV channel Russia 24.
It's Ukrainian territory. They were warned and they paid the price. Question is will Russia really do anything about it.
bastards were asking for it
I think the slut deserved it

Then you must be a hardened criminal after all those reporters you've killed.

Clearly being Putin means that he is immune to irony.

its funny how sentiment between clamping down on the pro-eu and pro-russian demonstrations differ
Operation Save Simon is underway.
its funny how sentiment between clamping down on the pro-eu and pro-russian demonstrations differ
Sitting in the square of Kiev and protesting is a "demonstration," grabbing guns and stealing tanks and illegally arresting civilians at checkpoints and kidnapping people is not a "demonstration."

Those soviet dogs are communists and stuff, its okay to dislike them.
Their colour is red, definitely bad guys.

Key difference between protesting and beginning a civil war.
Key difference between protesting and beginning a civil war.
Key difference between protesting and killing, kidnapping and petrol bombing police.

Except that the Kiev movement did that in response to the government making protesting illegal and preventing people from assembling, these people are doing this because "Lol Putin said so."
Cold War 2: Electric Boogaloo
Although I don't want to jump on the WWIII fear mongering bandwagon I can't help but honestly say things could get much worse if the international community does not play their cards right.
Also if you're seriously comparing throwing molotovs to stealing military equipment, arming and training troops with full military gear, and kidnapping random people left and right, you're insane.
maybe someone who can tune into "The Buzzer" (aka. UVB-76) short-wave radio (directly, not over the net) and maybe intercept troop movement details ...
back on topic though, Putins' arms buildup obviously has been intrinsically planned this and it's getting very possible now Ukraine could split should he go ahead and roll troops across the border.

Nothing will happen. Literally nothing will happen. Even if Russia continues to have their fighters do imaginary strafing runs on US ships, if one gets shot down a whole war isn't going to break out over it.
The war exercises going on right now are just a kind of "Don't fuck with us" display that the US and Russia is doing.

UVB-76 is for intelligence operatives, there's no need to be that obtuse just to give troops orders.
And yeah, it's pretty clear Putin has planned this and isn't just going with the flow.

"Nah guys don't worry a war wont happen, nobody is that stupid." - Some dude, 1939

What a thoroughly unfitting analogy.

Putin is not god damn Hitler. Don't even make that comparison.

but there were plenty of people in the previous threads fantasizing about the pro-eu protesters doing exactly that.

there were plenty of posts about how they need to start hitting police stations, barracks, getting units to defect
plus the usual facepunch gun lobby reminding us this is the very reason why they collect guns
