As with almost anything, second hand looses support. Not surprising because second hand gives no money to Oculus so w/e.
They'd better be ready to ship a hell of a lot of units as soon as CV1 is released. I'm waiting, and I'm pretty sure most people are.
It's actually normal so i don,t see what's bad about it.
It's actually normal so i don,t see what's bad about it.
they've felt the need to make a statement to help educate people who'd be buying the second hand junk. I'm sure they had a LOT of people trying to get support for DK1's with missing parts or damages or whatever that came through these resellers, and while they're trying to nip the reselling at the source, they're still covering other bases
As long as they're not turning away units that were purchased within the warranty time frame, I'm okay with this. Just because I buy a phone and give it to my wife doesn't mean I should lose support for it if something goes faulty inside the unit. Legally they're within their rights... But it's a shitty thing to do and with the resources of Facebook, they can manage. This isn't just some start up company anymore. This is a billion dollar company and it should be held to the standards of other billion dollar companies when it comes to customer relations.
It's kind of an asshole thing to do just to stop chinese resellers, I mean, really. I hope they allow it again when the CV1 comes out.

There's a big difference between your friend/SO gifting you one of these and someone buying or selling it on e-bay.
As the user said above, they should be able to deal with this shit with the amount of money facebook has given them unless facebook is restricting the moneys use somehow. I should be able to sell my rift if I don't want it anymore on ebay. That's the whole point of the site. [editline]15th July 2014[/editline] also can someone educate me on what is wrong with a chinese reseller? they are essentially acting as retailers for oculus and have already bought the item from them. If people are stupid enough to pay a shit ton extra to them why is this an oculus problem?
The Oculus Rift dev kit 2 represents a major breakthrough in “presence and comfort”, but has been delayed till September.
No it hasn't. The first ones are shipping this week. Only if you order it now, you will get it in September because of the 50k+ line, but for anyone who already had theirs ordered it'll be July-August.
Fair enough. As it stands they still need a source of capital to develop future versions.

They then add another 2/3rds of the price onto ebay sales for the people who couldn't get a reasonable ship time on a legit order. why would you defend these extortionists' rights to be opportunistic vultures Oculus is killing off accounts they find to be resellers. It's that simple. You're free to turn the thing around on ebay when you're done with it, but I can guarantee there will be a ridiculous number of the units on ebay before the second shipments even arrive

It's a development kit, it's for developers. Resellers are just delaying actual developers getting their kits and chances are the buyers of these resold units aren't even developers themselves. I can't fault Oculus at all for trying to crack down on this shit.
Can't wait to get my Devkit 2 model this August. :3
