Yahoo CEO Marissa Mayer sued for allegedly forcing out male employees
Former Yahoo executive Scott Ard filed a lawsuit against Mayer and two other executives, alleging they led a campaign to unfairly cull male employees from the company. The suit also claims Mayer fired a large number of workers based on a performance-rating system imposed by Mayer, according to the San Jose Mercury News. (Before he was at Yahoo, Ard served in a number of roles at CNET and CNET News, including editor in chief.)
The lawsuit comes at a bad time for Yahoo. Earlier this week, it was reported that the US government had Yahoo snoop through its users' email for intelligence-related data. Last month, the company disclosed that hackers had accessed the personal information of at least half a billion e-mail accounts. Verizon now has reportedly asked for a $1 billion discount on its pending acquisition of the company.
Yahoo declined to comment on the lawsuit, but defended the fairness of its review process.
"Our performance review process was developed to allow employees at all levels of the company to receive meaningful, regular, and actionable feedback from others," said Yahoo spokeswoman Carolyn Clark. "Our performance review process also allows for high performers to engage in increasingly larger opportunities at our company, as well as for low performers to be transitioned out."
oh god it keeps happening
Can Yahoo just go away already tbh
No wonder they bought Tumblr :v:
Gender politics is such a weird concept to me, maybe it's because i don't feel we get much of it here in Danmark.
Clearly it's fucking sexism to hire based on gender, no matter if it's men or women getting the shaft, it shouldn't be hard to grasp at all.

It takes some mental gymnastics to figure out.
This is the second time they have been sued for the same thing. From what I read from the last suit the review process is awful.

oh gee wow this sounds like a company I want to get on board with :what:
I can see this being true. Meyers has been pretty bad as CEO at Yahoo.
Right after the call, Ard requested a copy of his performance review and said he wanted to appeal his firing, the suit said. “Both requests were denied and (Ard) was ordered to turn in his laptop and depart the premises immediately.”
Isn't this illegal?
It is probably true as two multi-plaintiff lawsuits would attest.

i hate engadget why do i read it
they LOVE writing about how great it is that companies are hiring people based solely on their ethnicity/gender but turn a blind eye to any evidence showing it hurts "normal" people
I'm sorry but what the fuck is reverse discrimination? No matter which way it goes it's discrimination
Its engadget phrasing it to make the claim sound more ridiculous.

Nothing says "quality professional journalism" like referring to the plaintiff as a "bro"

In the US you can be fired for any or no reason as long as it's not discriminatory. The whole performance review is (allegedly) just a sham to justify firing males.
They could petition for discovery on the performance review but who knows whether it would be helpful. They need to prove that they were fired for being male, which is going to be difficult.
Although should point out that you can collect unemployment if you are fired for no reason.

Engadget started going down the shitter around 4 years ago, so I'm not surprised they make clickbait articles with a agenda now.

Also Engadget is owned by Verizon, who's trying to buy Yahoo.

it's like racism against white people is reverse racism, as if sexism or racism is entirely endemic to white men. It's basically a mental self defense mechanism to keep these people from realizing what genuinely awful people they are, and what profound hypocrites they're being
Nice to know it's not just confined to tumblr and hippy state collages, and this shit is bleeding into the real world
The future will not look back fondly at us
the only reason i want yahoo to stay afloat is because i've been using yahoo mail for over a decade and i really don't want my main email account to go down the fucking shitter

Switch while you easily can already, Gmail is so much better.

Eh, yahoo mail isn't too bad. But since it is attached to such an unstable company yeah bro jump ship asap.
I've also been using protonmail along with my gmail and it is pretty nice. Basically you set a second password to encrypt/decrypt your mailbox, and the web client and mobile app is pretty good. Only problem is you cant use it with things like thunderbird which is what stops me from moving completely to it.
I'll prolly just self-host eventually.

And America is incredibly out of shape.
Isn't this illegal?
I'm pretty certain they have to give a reason for firing, even in the US.
yahoo and twitter are two companies that i'd be more than giddy to see their respective CEOs and management fuck off so they can rebuild with proper professional business again.
No that can't be, those people are a boogeyman that doesn't exist/are a tiny minority.
Walmart does this shit too but nobody speaks up.
