• First Phone, Which Phone?

Thinking of finally buying a phone, now that I have a job and can afford one. I'd prefer a smartphone, though I might change my mind. -Oh and I'll be using the Verizon Network. I was considering the Droid Incredible, but I would appreciate your input. [img_thumb]http://cdn4.mattters.com/photos/photos/1593063/htc-droid-incredible.jpg[/img_thumb] Are there any major negatives I should know about? I've never owned a phone, so I would appreciate facepunch's input.:v: Edit:-Also, is it possible to change the theme/skin on the Droid? I always loved the look of that pip-boy skin for the blackberry.
I'm with AT&T. I have a HTC Hero and iPhone 3GS. HTC phones are nice, but I would have better preferred a Droid for the raw power. The Hero lacks behind on benchmarks often times.
I was going to say iPhone 4, then I read Verizon

it was my first phone, and it should be yours too
The Droid Incredible, as it's name suggests, is Incredible. I'd say go for it, the Droid X and Droid 2 aren't worth it, they aren't that much of an improvement.
I personally recommend a HTC desire.
How old are you? I was 12 when i got my first phone... It broke.. and I've been through like 4 phones and just broke them, I drowned my last one at Christmas. So unless your sure you can take care of it don't get an expensive one.
Wait for the Droid X or Droid 2, which are coming to Verizon very soon.
I personally recommend a HTC desire.
yeah GSM phones work great on a CDMA network!
Wait for the Droid X or Droid 2, which are coming to Verizon very soon.
Both of them aren't THAT big of an improvement over the Droid Incredible, they aren't worth the time you have to wait to get them.
Don't get an Iphone.
I would reccomend the Droid over the Droid Incredible, if you don't really need the camera upgrade. the Incredible is a great phone, but HTC's modifications aren't really that good and slow down the phone quite a bit. Also, updates to ANdroid come MUCH later, if at all, to modified-android phones. The Droid has more more potential in the field of rooting. there are many more themes, (ones that affect the whole system, which you need to root for) Roms (user-made mods to Android) and general cool shit. For example, Froyo (android 2.2) was leaked/released for the Droid, 100% functioning and fast as hell. with Froyo and an 800mhz overclock (the Droid overclocks VERY well) my Droid is almost twice as fast as a stock Snapdragon, aka the Incredible. Plus, it has a physical keyboard.

I've got an iphone and i tell you, its a bit dissapointing. Sure it's got a bazillion apps but its annoying to use sometimes. And fucking itunes... Dont get me started on THAT shit.
I got a Motorola Droid the other day when I switched to Verizon from a LG Rumor on Sprint. I have to say, it's amazing. Whatever you get, as long as it runs android, you will not be disappointed.
I really doubt the Droid CPU could be twice as fast overclocked, even at something like 1.2GHz.
It is, I've done linpack and quadrant benchmarks. But don't forget it's on Froyo, which gives 2-5x speed improvements. I compared it to a Snapdragon on Eclair. But a stock Eclair Droid at 550mhz is very usable, I was just proving a point. People loved the Nexus One's speed, but there wasn't much excitement when a Droid was able to do almost double that.

The Motorola Droid 2's/Droid X's CPU/GPU(most notably GPU) runs circles around the Snapdragon. So if you want a fast phone with a keyboard: Droid 2. If you want a fast phone with a big screen and good camera: Droid X or EVO 4G.
