All I hope that I can run a Bulldozer on my Asus M4A88TD-V AM3 Mother board. Damnit and i just built it as well.
Goddamn it and I just got an AM3 motherboard like 4 months ago. Good thing I got the six-core Phenom II, won't need to bother upgrading for like 5 years
are there even any benchmarks out for any AM3+ CPU anyways
are there even any benchmarks out for any AM3+ CPU anyways
Last I read the recent Phenom II is going to be Quad Core, and it's standard clock is 3.7Ghz.
they're sticking with the Phenom name?
Phenoms are phenomenal
Not exactly. I believe thats the last of the Phenom II line...
So... Are these actually usable with current AM3 CPUs? I might make my next build AMD to save a little money now, and get one of these motherboards, then upgrade to Bulldozer when the time comes.
i've heard am3+ cpus won't work in am3 sockets :smithicide:
i've heard am3+ cpus won't work in am3 sockets :smithicide:
Most will with a bios flash
oh, didn't realize they are backward compatible to am3 slots. AMD STILL LOVES US! :slick::slick::slick:

Everything about this is just sounding fricking insane... I've heard rumors spurting ever since the press release of the Phenom II 980, many saying that the stable clock for the Bulldozer may as well be over 4.0Ghz, and the support for the AM3+ will ensure no bottle necking. Also... Just a snippet from Wikipedia. Their was also reference on the wiki page of the bulldozer arch going to support 8 to 10 core processors by early 2012.
What? My stable clock on my Phenom II 955 is over 4 GHz too
What? My stable clock on my Phenom II 955 is over 4 GHz too
Factory Clock. Sorry.
4+ GHz? While I want to see technology advancing, I just bought an i5 2500 :argh:
Excellent! My plans for building a new computer after the summer is falling into place.
Excellent! My plans for building a new computer after the summer is falling into place.
And Nvidea announced SLI will be allowed for AMD mobos again... Yes it's all coming according to plan.
Well oh well I guess that I can save up again then, I guess it is not too bad having to spend about 900 dollars on an upgrade. Though I might just flash my bios to work with bulldozer to save me some annoyance.
And Nvidea announced SLI will be allowed for AMD mobos again... Yes it's all coming according to plan.
That is the one thing that pissed me off with AMD chipsets on motherboards, no support for SLI at all. I know it drums up competition, but shit it is annoying for the consumer.

Interesting, I think my board might have the 780GX chipset, I know it's one of the 7x0 chipsets. Thanks, might be of use if I decide to buy another GTX 460.
4+ GHz? While I want to see technology advancing, I just bought an i5 2500 :argh:
More Ghz =/= better performance. The fact that the cores might need to run at 4GHZ stock shows something about the CPI of the new amd chips. Granted if they overclock beyond 4ghz and have the same TDP it honestly doesn't matter and it does show the chips can be stable at very high frequencies but I just feel better buying a cpu where it doesn't need 4GHz cores to perform tasks at the same speed as the competition.
What? Basically you are saying "it doesn't matter if that car can go faster, the way it's built is more important". [editline]29th April 2011[/editline] Although yes there are other factors that go into CPU performance, such as cache and whatnot. However, I don't think AMD is gonna just improve the clockrate--they are gonna improve the whole series overall.
If it's 4+ Ghz and manages to keep a TDP of ≤ 125W, great job AMD. I really want to see some benchmarks though.

AMD is totally revising their design (as far as I'm concerned) and I don't think they'll only increase the clock speed. If this is going to be the factory clock, there's alot to expect from them.
