• Learn from my misfortune: Be careful with non-locking blades (pictures included)

I was using my swiss army knife, when I forgot it didn't lock. It closed on my hand and cut open my right knuckle. I pulled it back quickly and observed the damage by bending my finger. The bone of my knucle was visible as the skin parted over it. I was bleeding profusely. I ran home holding my hand above my head compressed and when I got there I ran it under water for a minute, dried it with kitchen towel, then wrapped it up and continued to compress it above my head. I'm now sat at my computer with my index finger taped to a ice cream stick, using my middle and third finger to operate my mouse, taking 5 minutes to type every word. This explanation is the copypasta I'm using for everyone. Here's a whole hand shot. Here's a closeup. You can see where it's closed up. This is how it looked before the healing, my best illustration with a crippled hand. It's already sealed thanks to my genetic clotting conditions which are potentially life-threatening in later life :smugdog: I'm more likely to clot (factor v leiden), and when I do, I clot for longer (prothombin 20210). Only 0.025% of US people (I'm in the UK) have the combo of those 2 genetic conditions and only europeans can get one of them, I forget which. I'm such a badass, getting cut and shit. So anyway kids, be fucking careful when using non-locking blades. Use them to slice, Yes. Use them to carve, Yes. Use them to stab, NO. Do not ever apply pressure to the point, one small misdirection of pressure and it will push the blade closed onto your hand.
Doesn't look all that bad.
i was expecting something a little more burly than a swiss-army knife. never fun cutting yourself though.. i have a Fixed-blade Gerber knife that i widdle with.. thing is sharp as hell.. if i cut myself with that thing i might lose a finger.
Holy shit you heal like a fucking krogan or something
Doesn't look all that bad.
Believe me, when you look down at your knuckle and see the skin split over it, revealing your bone as blood flows out of it, it looks bad. As I said, I have a clotting thing which makes me heal faster and it's been an hour or 2 now.
Don't be a bitch Also, if you were smart, you would of put tape over the blade so you didn't cut yourself, that's what i did with my butterfly knife, that is until you get better :)
Go see a doctor.
Holy shit you heal like a fucking krogan or something
At the expense of deep vein thrombosis's when I'm older and having to go on blood thinner when it gets to that stage (or die), rendering me an easy-bleeder. It's a fair payoff though tbh. The healing speed is well worth it.
Don't be a bitch Also, if you were smart, you would of put tape over the blade so you didn't cut yourself, that's what i did with my butterfly knife, that is until you get better :)
Except I was using the blade, not tricking with it.
Go see a doctor.
No need.

I've nearly cut my fingers like this many times.
That seems like a really deep cut. You should probably see a doctor, just you can see if you need stitches or not, and to make sure it doesn't get infected.
looks deep indeed, you better get that checked
Ouch, that look's painful! Put some antiseptic cream on it because the wound may become infected.
mmm magnum my favourite ice cream
Crafty first-aid notwithstanding, go see a doctor. And I'd probably try and avoid using a computer altogether for a while.
Done that before but on the inside of my finger. Shit stings!
I usually cut open the tape on packages with a swiss army knife and it pisses me off when this happens, I'm not using it again after this.
Who uses swiss army knives anyway o_o
I bet some idiot will come and tell us to use a huge tacticool neckbeard 8' knife instead.
I cringed
Don't mess with knives, got it.
I did this once, except I cut the tendon. Almost all the way, they said like 6 threads were still intact or something.
Holy shit, are you Wolverine?
I did this once, except I cut the tendon. Almost all the way, they said like 6 threads were still intact or something.
I was terrified that I might have severed a tendon, dunno if I did but before holding it straight I tested it's movement and it seemed fine fortunately. You used a fucking Magnum ice cream stick as a fucking splint...
You used a fucking Magnum ice cream stick as a fucking splint...
Yep, and it's working great :buddy:
Yep, and it's working great :buddy:
Good :buddy:
Make sure to check on the wound every now and then though. If it keeps swelling up you need to see a doctor. Don't want to get a nasty infection. Clean it with alcohol if you can.
So much for a trigger finger.
Use lemon juice on the wound, will clear any and all bacteria. :downs:
