Time Team archaeologist Prof Mick Aston has died at the age of 66, it was revealed tonight.
The much-respected academic was a presenter on the Channel 4 programme as well as one of the brains behind its concept.
The professor quit Time Team last year after 19 years over fears the show featured “a lot less archaeological content and a lot more pratting about”.
The programme's official Facebook page said: "It is with a very heavy heart that we've been informed that our dear colleague Mick Aston has passed away."
