• Upgrading to i7

I'm considering upgrading the following rig with an i7 P5N-E SLI Mobo Q6600 2.4GHz GTX 260 4gb RAM 700W PSU I would obviously need a new motherboard and some new RAM, and that is where I am hoping you can help me. Which motherboard is the best value, but won't break on me, and how much RAM would you recommend? Also, how much of a performance increase do you think I would notice?
budget?
4gb of ram should be sufficient.. I've never needed any more (x64 system) I'd go for DDR-2 over DDR3 but there are probably others who would disagree with this. I have an Asus P5Q-e MoBo, I'm pretty happy with it for what I paid. And it seems pretty reliable. Yes, i5/i7 is DDR3 only
budget?
It really depends. I don't really want to spend over £200 on the motherboard but I don't want it to be shit either. I'm probably looking at a mid-range i7 too.
go for a p55 w/ Xeon x3440 build
I did the same upgrade. From Q6600 to i7 920.
I'd say get a i5-750 quad instead, and spent the saved money on something else.
