It stars Elijah Wood and series co-creator Jason Gann, reprising his role of the eponymous dog Wilfred. The series was adapted for the American television channel FX by Family Guy veteran David Zuckerman. It was picked up for a second season on August 6, 2011. The second season premiered on June 21, 2012.
Plot
The show follows a young man named Ryan (Elijah Wood) and his neighbor's dog Wilfred (Jason Gann). In the opening episode, Ryan concocts a drug cocktail in order to commit suicide. After this failed attempt, Ryan's neighbor, Jenna (Fiona Gubelmann), knocks on his door to ask him to look after her dog for the day. Ryan is taken aback as he sees Wilfred as a tall, verbose Australian man wearing a grey dog suit, while everyone else views Wilfred as just a regular dog.
Currently on it's second season, it's unconfirmed whether it'll have a third or any other future seasons, although it did get good reviews all around so it's expected to be renewed. Wilfred has a lot of psychological elements in it, it's definitely worth a watch.
I love this show, so much more so than I thought I would.
I really love the plot, I never expected the twist.
The ending of the 1st season was crazy. I haven't watched the 2nd one yet cause I only watch things on Netflix cause I don't have TV.

Any news on a third season yet? I know the ratings this past season have been terrible but I hope the FX executives decide to overlook that. I think the season 2 finale only got a half million or so, pretty meager for such a good episode.
The australian season was better but I am definitely a fan of the American one, has some great moments and I hope it gets renewed
Just finished the second american season. Shit's crazy. I personally preferred the american one because the australian version had a lot more depressing moments it seemed, especially that ending.
It's quite good, but it's just americans trying to cash in a show they didn't make like Kath and Kim, that sucked.

I can overlook Elijah Wood being depressed and emotional because Wilfred consistently exploits that.

It's rare that those shows ever end up good which is why shows like the Office and Wilfred are at least somewhat charming for that reason. Wilfred American version is so great though. I'm consistently amused by it despite moments I cringe at.
There was a new episode a couple of days ago, right? I think I missed, damn.
There was a new episode a couple of days ago, right? I think I missed, damn.
Last week actually; I wouldn't rely on watching it again on FX since they're so lousy with reruns that aren't Two and a Half men or whatever.
That was the last ep of the season as well. Big cliffhanger, please please please renew
Wilfred is the only american version of something I've ever enjoyed (I haven't seen either of the office)
It's amazing how many famous actors pop in and out every episode Robin Williams playing a doctor was a pleasant surprise
oh that robin williams moment was just gold, the bit where he recognised it was robin williams
