The Nova Scotia man pleaded guilty Monday to possession of stolen property and being unlawfully in a dwelling house stemming from a bizarre incident north of Kamloops, B.C. Provincial court heard the residents of a ranch in Little Fort on the Yellowhead Highway returned home after a night out last week to find a stranger sitting on their couch with a cup of coffee. "She found the accused in her home watching TV," Crown lawyer Mike Wong said. "He had started a fire in the fireplace and prepared himself a meal. He said he had been driving by and the door was open, so he came in. Hiscock had also helped himself to a truck in Ontario on his way to British Columbia, court heard. "The accused appears to have done some laundry. He also fed the cats and put out some hay for the horses," Wong said. "He used (the residents') toothbrush and shaver, he had taken some meat out of the freezer to thaw and he had written in their diary." "Today was my first full day at the ranch," he wrote in the diary. "I fed the cats and horses. So much I can do here I have to remind myself to just relax and take my time. "I don't feel alone here, I guess with 2 cats and 3 horses it's kinda hard to be alone. Last night I had a fire in the house. It was so (peaceful). I slept like a little baby. I saw a picture in the basement on the wall of a man holding and weighing fish on a boat. Looking at him I realized we look a lot alike, but I think I'm more handsome." The residents flagged down a passing police car and Hiscock was taken into custody. Hiscock's journey to B.C. started in his home province of Nova Scotia earlier this month. Court heard he drove his car from Nova Scotia to Sault Ste. Marie, Ont., where he stole a truck and headed west.
http://www.huffingtonpost.ca/2015/09/29/christopher-hiscock_n_8216288.html
ok using their toothbrush and shaver, what the fuck dude
Not gonna lie that's fucking eerie as shit. I'd rather have someone break in steal shit and be on their way thank you very much
I mean at least his intentions weren't malicious
The thought of someone breaking in and not stealing all my shit concerns me more than someone breaking in and stealing stuff
Those diary entries sound creepy as fuck He was going to assimilate the residents and become them, live their lives :disgust:
I mean at least his intentions weren't malicious
still, he sounds kinda deranged, not entirely sure I'd wanna be coming home to some mentally unstable dude who thinks it's a-okay to use my place like it's his own, even going so far as to write in my diary.
I came in here expecting entries like "Dear diary, today I forgot to lock the front door like a goddamn idiot." Didn't even think of him just making a new entry like it was his all along. That's a pretty subtle shade of unsettling there.
Clearly mentally ill. The way we handle these people in BC is disgusting. By the looks of it they just gave him probation and let him on his way. Seriously?? The fact he was even criminally charged is bizarre. If this was someone's grandmother who had undiagnosed dementia, would the best choice of action be to put her on probation or to give her medical help and supervision?
He said he had been driving by and the door was open, so he came in.
Not exactly what I'd call "breaking in", but alright. Good to hear nothing seriously bad happened and it ended up being more "weird" than anything else.
I dunno guys, sounds like he had a really nice time:
Hiscock, who has no prior criminal record, apologized in court. "I made a lot of mistakes,'' he said. "There's really no excuses for it.'' He was still beaming about his brief stay at the ranch. "Beautiful ranch,'' he said. "Gorgeous. I was driving and I just turned in. Beautiful place.''
This guy is probably homeless and maybe a bit crazy, did he think he was Goldilocks?
"I really have nowhere to go,'' he said, when Cleaveley asked about his plans. "The woods is a good place, I suppose. There's a lot of fish out there.''
Sad
. He said he had been driving by and the door was open, so he came in.
"Video games cause person to break in" - kotaku "mentally ill behavior eerily parallels video game culture, we should change that" -Polygon
He doesn't seem like a bad guy, if a bit mentally unstable. He didn't hurt anyone. Hope he just gets probation or something at most.
After an experience like that I'd probably install an alarm system. Christ.
After an experience like that I'd probably install an alarm system. Christ.
Locking the front door would be a step in the right direction.
Locking the front door would be a step in the right direction.
Or closing it. :V But hey, an alarm system doesn't rely on your memory, at least.
Or closing it. :V But hey, an alarm system doesn't rely on your memory, at least.
You have to "arm" most alarms when you leave.

Just had to be somebody from nova scotia [editline]1st October 2015[/editline]
Not exactly what I'd call "breaking in", but alright. AHAHAHA. I heard about this on the AM this morning. What is it with this town and weird crime?
"Video games cause person to break in" - kotaku "mentally ill behavior eerily parallels video game culture, we should change that" -Polygon
Polygon wouldn't write an article like that, that's ableist :eng101s:
I'm really wondering what the guy's story is, it sounds like he really wanted to be someone else even for a little while and even though it's a bit eerie it comes off more sad than creepy.
that guy is the nicest thief ever
That's so creepy
Reminds me of the naked guy that broke into Nicholas Cages house, ate a fudgesicle, and hopped into bed with him. Horror
This sounds more sad than creepy imo. Wonder what his backstory is.
Breaking into someones house doesnt literally mean you have to break in the door or anything
Depends on the country. Here in canada though if you don't have permission to be in the house, you are breaking and entering. However if you're just on the lawn and such it's trespassing. Not surprising though mental health ideas of BC are quite crap so getting help won't happen. I've had cops even tell me that the system fails a lot of people, which is pretty easy considering myself and neighbour, all that happens is here's meds hopes it helps talk to you in a month. So odd that you wouldn't send someone who did that in for a evaluation.
