• Want to build £500 gaming computer. Need help with parts and how to construct!

Hey guys, I'm in the market for a new desktop gaming computer as I'm fed up with my overheating, piece of shit, burning my hands off XPS laptop. However I know that I can save alot of money making the computer myself and so, unaware of what to do, I come here looking for advice. I'm painfully aware that ALOT of money can be saved (or, in my case, a much better build can be constructed) by building the computer yourself and so, as a student, I am more than interested in the prospect of building a PC for myself. However, I am really quite inexperienced with the whole thing (most I've ever done is upgraded RAM) and so the idea is daunting. Is there any good website anyone knows of that will explain the dos and don'ts of building a computer and how to actually do it? No screen is necessary as I already have 2. Anyway, on with the show! I have a couple of basic needs that I'll highlight here for you. Checklist - Primarily a gaming PC - Windows 7 64 bit. Obvious choice but it's something I want in the PC. - 5.1 ability on the soundcard minimum. This is not to say I need a dedicated soundcard, simply the ability to take 5.1 (so, in other words, a motherboard that can do 5.1 preferred). - A graphics card that can handle dual-screen. This is probably highlighting my ignorance to the max but I really don't know how common this is in graphics cards. I have a 19" screen currently that I use for my 360 and it's a DVI input. I'd plan to switch between 360 and a second screen for the PC. Again, invaluable for research / loads of internet screens at once etc. - Needs DVD and a Wireless N card. - I know hard drives are cheap so I'm looking at a 1TB min size. To avoid diskhead crash worries I'd like to do 500GB x 2 but only if the difference in price is not overwhelming. ----- I think that's pretty much it. I'll be looking to buy this PC ASAP and any help from anyone is greatly appreciated! Hope this isn't too long and isn't a dirge to read :) Oh and I'd need an operating system

You have too high expectations for a build of this price. Especially when you need an OS, too.
Yeah but it will be a decent, upgradeable build nonetheless.
Ok I've had a look at that website which is awesome and come up with this. Does it look like it will run well enough?

Much better performance, for the same amount of money. Other than that, this looks fine, though you may want to go for an Antec Basiq to get some better specs..
