The National is an indie rock band formed in Cincinnati, Ohio in 1999 and currently based in Brooklyn, New York. The band's lyrics, which have been described as "dark, melancholy, and difficult to interpret", are written and sung by Matt Berninger. The rest of the band is comprised of twins Aaron (Guitar and keyboard) and Bryce Dessner (guitar), and Scott (bass) and Bryan Devendorf (drums). The National has been compared to Joy Division, Leonard Cohen, Wilco and Nick Cave and The Bad Seeds. The name of the band was chosen because it "didn't mean anything" and was "benign and meaningless". They seemed to be getting a lot more popular as of late, so I figured why not make a thread?
Like many others, I learned of The National because of Portal 2. I went from Exile Vilify to Boxer and now I'm currently listening to High Violet. They're all really solid, genuinely like all of it.
Definitely among my favorites in the rainy day mood music area Boxer is my favorite album overall but I really love the emotion in this
Slipping Husband is my most played song on Last.FM. Great track
These guys are brilliant. High Violet would have to be my favourite album of theirs, although I honestly think Exile Vilify is the best song they've ever written.
I've kind of gone off them recently, but damned if they don't have some unbelievably good tracks.
Easily one of my favorite bands. Absolutely beautiful music but man can they make me sad, still listen to them anyways of course. Alligator is easily my favorite album as well.

i wonder if they'll ever come near boston
These guys are great, but their lyrics can be a bit abstract. Anyway, 90-Mile Water Wall is my favourite song by them.
These guys are great, but their lyrics can be a bit abstract.
Their lyrics are a big part of what I enjoy about their songs. They're abstract yeah, but they can have great meanings hidden inside of them. Also, anyone got any idea when they'll be releasing a new album/song?
hopefully soon
