• Can't set up router

I've got an old D-link router that we don't use at my place, so I'm trying to set it up at my gf's house. The problem is, they use the trojan virus that kills everything known to man AOL. Getting rid of it is non negotiable because her mom wants to be able to keep track of internet history and thinks she needs it for a whole bunch of other nonsensical reasons. It looks to me like AOL is blocking the software I need to set up the router. Right now they have their comp plugged straight into the modem. I've tried to set up the router by plugging it into the modem and using another computer. This computer wouldn't even recognize that a router was there. Both computers work plugged up directly to the modem. How can I set this up? How can I bypass AOL's stupid controls so the installation software can get to the internet? Any idea as to why the router won't work even when plugged into the AOL-less computer? Thanks FP!
cmd tracert 8.8.8.8 or tracert the gateway see where it is getting caught up [editline]06:21PM[/editline] I think tomato lets you shelscript all outbound traffic, you may need to assign a pc with a static IP and then pipe the traffic to it
Looks like I've got a bad router. I have to reset to factory defaults every time I turn the thing on, or else it doesn't do anything at all. I'll come back tomorrow with another router.
If it is a black linksys router N+, those are crap.
