I live in the isle of man which is in the uk but we have next to no gang violence over here. So i am asking is the gang violence in Mainland uk really as bad as depicted in harry brown? Also discuss the movie. Wiki:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Harry_Brown_%28film%29
Incredibly shallow disgusting film glorifying vigilantism. A dignified pensioner torturing and murdering disadvantaged youth? Movie of the year folks.

Edit; We discussed a swedish movie, in another thread, called "Hipp hipp hora". Wich was supposed to portray the life of a teenager, but it's so exaggerated it's stupid.
Maby not that bad, but there are people who act like that around, people who think they are tough because they are from counsil houses which in reality only means they are poor. I remeber when I was young with a friend, he shot some bb's into a crowed of pickeys and they held us hostage for a while untill he started to cry then they let us go, another time one took my bike and riped the bell off. I raged hard and grabed him of the seat by the neck and rode off. So many pickey adventures... You do get some nutter pickeys who stab people up for their money and phones. Me and 2 friends where on our way back from a party and we got chased by 2 pickeys who are renound for mugging. That's just tunbridge wells for you, one of the nicer places apparently.
It's really quite exaggerated with the teens power over the police really. There's an odd scene pitting the police and teens against eachother, but the teens overthrow them even with full riot gear on. Even so it's one of the only films this year to really suprise me in a good way, I wanted to watch it again just after it had finished
I dunno, there are some places where the police just won't go because of the violence, but it's obviously going to be over hyped, it's a film.
The original Get Carter, and the Long Good Friday are probably a better representation. Films like that are often based on fact or real people. But 1 film may have its story based on 10 real stories and its main character based on 10 real people. There are places the police won't police. Hart Dyke Road in Swanley (A large Kentish town just inside the London boundaries) during the early 90's was one of those places that I know of, seeing as I lived there until 96 even though I was very young I can remember it. It gets worse in some area's of London. And then there are people like the Cray Twins who were very notorious for their use of violence.

There's a few places around where I live that the police have little to no power at all, the gangs just run ramped with knifes all over the place.
I liked the film, I just don't like how it's jumping on the 'Broken Britain' bandwagon and basically catering to the views of The Sun and Daily Mail readers who actually think you can't go outside your house without getting shot or stabbed.
A lot of this is true. If you live in a poor area.
Its depiction of gang violence is certainly true, but it glorifies vigilantism so a lot of stupid people are going to think they are heroes and violence is the answer.
I want to see it.

Technically The Punisher, Law Abiding Citizen, Watchmen and a fuck load of other movies also glorify vigilantism, if people want to try and take the law into their own hands so be it.
I'm hoping to see the full film soon, but from what i've seen on youtube i'd say it's fairy true to the point. Gang / Chav violence on estates in the UK is a BIG problem. Especially in the poorer areas of England. There have been cases of girls having acid thrown in their faces, and i know for a fact that there are places that the police are either unable or unwilling to patrol. A few months ago i was at a friends birthday celebration, it was getting pretty warm inside so me and a mate went out for a walk down the street and a breath of fresh air. When we were out my phone rang and it was the person who's birthday it was, they were asking if we were okay and told us to go straight back to the party because someone about two streets away had apparantly just had their throat cut. A few days later we found out that this was true and the person died.
