London mayor Sadiq Khan has urged Labour voters to ditch Jeremy Corbyn as leader and vote for Owen Smith in the party's leadership contest.

I’ve thought hard about my role in the Labour leadership election. I considered staying neutral because, as mayor, I need to work with everyone to get the best deal for London. But I’ve been asked how I’ll vote by many of the Labour members and supporters who helped me throughout my campaign, and they deserve an answer.

I thought he might. He's a pragmatist.
As an american, jeremy corbin looks like a british Bernie Sanders. Is that why everyone seems to hate him

He's only really Sanders in that he is a candidate to the left of the normal range of British politics. He lacks many of the other qualities in leadership, pragmatism and the sadly necessary way of handling the media.
Welp that's going to rock the boat, won't change shit though in the leadership election the Blairite contenders don't inspire anyone whereas JC is seen as shiny and new still to the membership, I'd say the odds of Owen Smith winning are astronomical, especially after the ISIS gaffe

I'd say Corbyn is easily more outspoken about his pacifism by saying things like no pressing the nuclear button, scrapping trident, unofficially hoping NATO disbands. He unironically wears the sort of hat you'd expect a communist caricature to wear.
The biggest problem with Corbyn is that his secondary target audience (primary being young people), the British middle aged working class, hate his guts because in a nutshell a lot of them read the Daily Mail/Express and the Telegraph and similar newspapers that mercilessly attack him on a regular basis. These newspapers produce a large voterbase of people who would call Corbyn a Trotskyite without actually knowing anything about what that is
There was one survey I saw that concluded there is a not a single DM or DE article in existence that hasn't twisted JC's policies out of context or misrepresented them. 0% fully accurate coverage.
Labour is pretty screwed with Corbyn, which is the hard truth for the people behind him

Agreed. Owen Smith isn't the man for leadership either, especially, as you said, after his IS comments. I thought I kind of liked him but some of the statements he came out were quite weird.
To be honest, if it was Khan himself running for it I'd give him the spot. But I don't know how much political experience he has and well, he is the mayor of London. Perhaps in the future.
I just wish British Labour could get its shit together. It's embarrassing how the Conservatives are getting away with what they want.
Corbyn will win - fast forward to 2020 and he will get destroyed in the general election. Wonder what all his hardcore fans will blame his defeat on then lol

He's a strong adherent to old-school Labour beliefs, beliefs as party policy during a time when Labour kept on losing general elections because voters preferred even Thatcher to what Labour had to offer. He's a terrible leader who promotes factionalism, for example appointing shadow cabinets comprised of people holding very similar beliefs to him (a minority of the Labour Party), yet having a complete lack of political experience.
He's destroyed any unity in Labour and showcased authoritarian tendencies by refusing to resign despite Labour MPs voting in a motion of no confidence against him by about 170-40, poll after poll showing that Labour is unelectable with Corbyn as leader, and Cameron's resignation as PM after the Brexit. He might have passion but he lacks strong leadership, and is believed to have sabotaged the 'remain' campaign before the Brexit, especially by saying things like he's 'only 70% in favour of the EU'.

Sanders may have been left wing, but unlike Corbin he wouldn't have gutted the military or left Nato.
Does labour not realize that no one will vote for them when all they do is throw shit at each other and not the tories.
I admire Corbyn for sticking to his beliefs, but man fuck this guy. If you're in a position of power you need to be able to make compromises.
corbyns unelectable yet somehow sadiq khan got elected london mayor while corbyn was in power HMMMMMM

The UK is bigger than London
[editline]21st August 2016[/editline]
And they were voting for Sadiq Khan to be their Mayor, they weren't voting for the Labour party
corbyns unelectable yet somehow sadiq khan got elected london mayor while corbyn was in power HMMMMMM
how did corbyn have any influence on the mayoral election? do you even live in london?
corbyns unelectable yet somehow sadiq khan got elected london mayor while corbyn was in power HMMMMMM
holy shit labour won in London
against Zac Goldsmith's amazing campaign
what a leader
what a man
and they say Corbyn is unelectable
corbyns unelectable yet somehow sadiq khan got elected london mayor while corbyn was in power HMMMMMM
Because he distanced himself from Corbyn, he literally told Corbyn not to get involved because he felt Corbyn would damage his campaign. Plus it's London they almost always vote Labour, Boris was just an exception to the rule.
Owen Smith is a fucking slimeball.
He's taken Corbyns platform, dressed it up in a nice looking suit and then proven his incompetency by poking around and making retarded comments on things he clearly has no idea about. That anybody could prefer him to Corbyn is beyond me.
They're both as ineffective as each other. Corbyn can't unite the party without burning it to the ground first, and Owen is just another boring New Labour cut-out who's only role in parliament would be devils advocate. Not to mention he's about as emotionally stirring as trapped wind.
