The worker, identified as Joel Grasman, 51, stole the truck from a transit center at 129th Street and Jamaica Avenue in Queens, the police said. It appeared that Mr. Grasman had taken the truck to transport welding equipment, which was reported missing, because it did not fit in his own vehicle, the police said. But as Mr. Grasman drove the truck near his home in Elmont, he “took down about 12 of our poles,” said Mark Gross, a spokesman for the Long Island Power Authority, leaving more than 6,000 customers without power.
New York Times To give a bit of a better perspective, he was driving around in one of these... [t]http://i.imgur.com/x0e4DWB.jpg[/t] ...With it extended. Not the brightest man. Comments from my dad and his other co-workers were that he appeared to be a good guy, and he was actually surprised to hear that this happened, thinking "No, he wouldn't do that." Lo, and behold, he did. :v:
What a failure at life.
Woo! Go MTA!
He must've been drunk and thought he was playing GTA.
I why tho?

I'm still confused, did he steal the truck to fuck shit up or did he borrow the truck for transport and accidentally fucked shit up?
This isn't sensational
What a failure at life.
he stole a truck he's not a murderer :v:
he stole a truck he's not a murderer :v:
Too late, death sentence for his crimes.
he stole a truck he's not a murderer :v:
He borrowed a truck without telling anyone, I'm pretty sure he intended to return it. He just accidentally the power to an entire city while at it.
To steal welding equipment, according to the article.
It was to move welding equipment, it didn't specify if he stole them or not.
It was to move welding equipment, it didn't specify if he stole them or not.
From the article: "Around 6 a.m., the transportation authority said, another employee arrived at the transit building in Jamaica to find the power cut to the yard, and the truck and some welding equipment missing." Okay, I guessed he could have 'borrowed' the welding equipment along with 'borrowing' the truck, but it seems weird as hell to sneak in your workplace in the early hours of the morning and take a load of stuff before anyone else comes in.
They made it seem like he was attempting to steal the welding equipment... Still, checking your boom before driving is a massive safety hazard.
Here's what the truck looked like after. I know there's a better picture of it, but I can't seem to find it.
What is it doing parked there
