not if you run them manually.
they both have a "quick scan" thing (as does every scanner)
anyways, thats how you get rid of a virus already on your PC.

They also scan ram, and they can scan before windows boots, well Avast can, not sure about AVG because I only have that on my laptop. But they both work.
I'd recommend formatting simply because trojans don't always like to go away for good (often they will reappear at a later time)...
install gentoo

I reinstaled and ran malwarebytes but it crashed after 4 seconds and I couldnt restarting because it had changed the file permissions.
When I run a online scan it aid that the virus was is svchost.exe
that happend to me and my hdd failed :crying:
Format.
If running mbam.exe doesn't work, try renaming it to mbam.bat and run it (Malwarebytes Anti-Malware). Also if you can open Task Manager, look for any suspicious svchosts, they should all be under SYSTEM, LOCAL SERVICE, or NETWORK SERVICE. Any under your Windows login name should be suspicious.
I might try that later, I dont have asccess to the infected pc atm
I suggest formating. Best way to get rid of them. But back up your stuff first.
What I usually do though is boot a Hiren's Boot CD and do a virus remove service so it'll be done quick.
Just try trojen remover, and do a full system scan. It will remove it...I used to to get rid of a virus I could not remove.. :o
