I'm getting a new computer, and I was wondering if I could salvage my old PSU - http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/searchtools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=3255392&SRCCODE=GOOGLEBASE&cm_mmc_o=VRqCjC7BBTkwCjCECjCE I'm buying the radeon 5770 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814131327 and I was wondering if it would work with this or no.
It should work just fine, i looked on newegg and the XFX brand 5770 requires a 450 watt minimum power supply. I'm on an EVGA 9800 GT 1GB so i don't know the companies that make radeon cards, but i dont think powercolor is one of the better companies.

Well I'm buying an HP, and the PSU on that is only 300w, and some of these don't say how many watts the psu's need to be. My unlce works for HP, so I'm getting a discount, so thats why I'm buying a prebuilt. And I'm planning to game in 1080p, and someone said you need a specific amount of video memory if your gaming over a certain resolution.

I promise you. Whats your total budget and we'll put a build together for you.
http://www.shopping.hp.com/product/rts_desktop/rts_desktop/1/storefronts/WW639AA%2523ABA to be exact. Its $450 right now. And my parents don't trust me on building my own, they think everyone these days are mentally challenged at technology.

Just don't drop anything. Explain to them how there is a ridiculously large markup on prebuilt PCs, so you are adding value and longevity to the purchase. And making the money go farther and last longer if you build your own.
Well they watched my brother build his own, and he ended up paying extra because some parts came broken, I tried arguing with them, and then they told me either buy a pre built on or you won't be getting one. And I had a build going on for about $602 (After Rebates) with a phenom dual core, radeon 5770, 650w psu, 4gb ram, no hdd, and an asus motherboard and case, and this comes in what seems to be a better deal though considering it has a hard drive, keyboard, and mouse. But if you could find a $550 - $650 build that can run games like Arma 2, or BC2 on full settings 1920x1080p with everything except a monitor, keyboard, and mouse, it would be cool, I might be able to convince them.

And As for your brothers PC, if Parts from Newegg.com come broken (Assuming you are in the US) the only extra you have to pay is to ship them back and get a replacement.
Will they be able to play in 1080p medium to high settings though? Although I will mostly play source games like GMOD, TF2, and CSS.
Will they be able to play in 1080p medium to high settings though? Still better than a prebuilt. Also do you need windows?
Yes. Just get the system builders one.
Build Someone else can tell me how to make it better, so it will improve before you settle. But after instant rebates that comes to 624$ and includes everything you need (Including windows) except monitor/mouse/keyboard. It should max source games, and play BC2 on medium @1080p.
Can I go with this combo? http://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboDealDetails.aspx?ItemList=Combo.434586
Can I go with this combo? http://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboDealDetails.aspx?ItemList=Combo.434586
Yes, that would lower cost by 5$ and give you a better CPU.
I'm coming up with $671 after shipping and mail in rebates, is there anything you could downgrade? [editline]11:01AM[/editline] Also, what if I just buy the HP and replace the gpu and psu, that comes to be $638, with basically most of the same stuff.
The combo is obsolete... The AII Propus x4 is basically the same from the 620 to the 640, just with a tiny OC.
