Donald Trump’s administration has reportedly threatened to isolate Alaska after a senator from the state voted against the President’s health care motion. Senator Lisa Murkowski was one of seven Republicans who rejected the measure to repeal parts of the Affordable Care Act, one of Mr Trump’s key policy pledges, during a vote on Tuesday. Later in the day Ms Murkowski and Dan Sullivan, the other Republican senator for Alaska, allegedly received calls from the Department of the Interior warning them that the state’s future was now under consideration. The messages, which came directly from the Interior Secretary Ryan Zinke, were “troubling”, Mr Sullivan told Alaska Dispatch News. "I'm not going to go into the details, but I fear that the strong economic growth, pro-energy, pro-mining, pro-jobs and personnel from Alaska who are part of those policies are going to stop," he said. Ms Murkowski did not comment on the call, but said she rejected the motion as she believed it had been rushed and did not adhere to a “transparent legislative process”. "I base my votes on what I believe is in Alaska's best interest," she said. "So I know that there are those who wish that I would be more in line with following the party platform, but I don't think it should come as any surprise that there have been occasions that I have not followed the lead of the party."
Source: The Independent.
At this point even If the Russia Thing was false, he is still an extremely authoritarian person
What, is he gonna handsaw alaska off the mainland like Bugs Bunny?
"I base my votes on what I believe is in Alaska's best interest,"
This is how every senator should act. I did a bit of reading on her and she seems to be one of the more center leaning republicans, so it's not surprising she voted against it.
What, is he gonna handsaw alaska off the mainland like Bugs Bunny?
Nah, just give them over to Canada probably. Slowly making out way towards this
On a scale from 1 to Tropico, I think we're somewhere around "Cuban cigar but no beard yet", but the year's not over.
What, is he gonna handsaw alaska off the mainland like Bugs Bunny?
We'll happily welcome our Alaskan friends as family if he wants to give it up for "disloyalty" on an anti-healthcare bill. It'd help our sovereignty claims to parts of the arctic a lot by having joint control of the Bering Straight with Russia instead of this chunk of America jammed into our northwest side.
Nah, just give them over to Canada probably.
I have a feeling that if Trump threatened Alaskans with giving them away to the Canadians, at this point Alaskans would go "can we still keep our guns and will you federally maintain our communities? ok".
Isn't punishing the inhabitants of an entire geographic area because their elected representatives refused to step in line with some 3rd world dictator wannabe exactly what destroyed Chris Christie? "Trump is a fascist/authoritarian" is starting to become a more and more mainstream political statement
Six months of this administration's behavior legitimately makes you wonder how they would handle ceding power to a democratic president, provided that Trump made it to the end of his term and lost.
exhibit A) Fascism.
Six months of this administration's behavior legitimately makes you wonder how they would handle ceding power to a democratic president, provided that Trump made it to the end of his term and lost.
I don't want to be dramatic and be all "HURR DURR REVOLUTION" or anything, but imagining a scenario where Trump refused to hand over power or came up with some kind of "state of emergency" thing, then it would be the first real time that the 2nd Amendment will be tested for the purpose it was created. I'd hope that military officials would do the right thing and follow their oath to preserve and defend the constitution, but if not then I hope it would be the people who would do something. Unfortunately, there's a large overlap of "people who support trump", "2nd amendment advocates", and "military members".
also, nobody's keeping records on crowd sizes at political rallies in youngstown ohio on a wednesday night, fucking narcasist
also, nobody's keeping records on crowd sizes at political rallies in youngstown ohio on a wednesday night, fucking narcasist
Nope, it definitely [del]set[/del]broke the record for number of attendees to a evening-time-period Youngstown, OH political rally in July 2017 that was personally attended by Trump. It's a hotly-contested category. That or the President of the USA is a pathological liar and narcissist.
"I'm not going to go into the details, but I fear that the strong economic growth, pro-energy, pro-mining, pro-jobs and personnel from Alaska who are part of those policies are going to stop," he said.
Hows that threatening a ol' punishing from the Trumponeeno? Maybe I just need someone to detail it
Hows that threatening a ol' punishing from the Trumponeeno? Maybe I just need someone to detail it
This is like mafia kind of threatening "Nice state there. It'd be a shame if something happened to it..."
Hows that threatening a ol' punishing from the Trumponeeno? Maybe I just need someone to detail it
If it means Trump reverses the reversal on protecting Alaska's vast nature preserves from oil drilling, to "spite" the Alaskan economy by depriving them of huge private oil companies tearing up their wilderness, OH YOU BETTER NOT THROW ME IN THAT THERE BRIAR PATCH, BR'ER ORANGE!! ANYTHING BUT THAT!

The residents are happy with it because the government gives them a check every month for a share of the profits
This is a serious threat. Their entire economy is logging, mining, and drilling. If Trump thinks the answer is "compliance" he really is so far up his own ass he should be reclassified as a new type of sentient life.
If Trump thinks the answer is "compliance" he really is so far up his own ass he should be reclassified as a new type of sentient life.
Sentient, but hardly sapient.
I guess calling him a fascist isn't just a left-wing zinger anymore.
So Trump is threatening his own base now? What's it gonna take to get rid of this guy?
Apparently "run the country like a business!" means "threaten anyone who doesn't obey you with repercussions and try to squeeze as much profit from the general public as possible". Who could have imagined???
Killing Alaska's industry is literally shooting himself in the foot. Try it dickhead.
Killing Alaska's industry is literally shooting himself in the foot. Try it dickhead.
His desk has an M2 browning mounted under it pointed at his feet. The trigger is tied to "Tweet" on his phone.
His desk has an M2 browning mounted under it pointed at his feet. The trigger is tied to "Tweet" on his phone.
A month ago, I'd have agreed with you. At this point I'm pretty sure he's switched to the invisible ceiling-mounted Howitzer aimed straight down at his desk.
When your least favorite lord begins to act up, you must reprimand him by punishing the surfs of his fief.
Shows how desperate Trump is to to get a major legislative victory under his belt.
also, nobody's keeping records on crowd sizes at political rallies in youngstown ohio on a wednesday night, fucking narcasist
He says it at every rally he goes to. He said it at the Boy Scout Jamboree. It's almost always false.
When the President threatens to punish legislators for acting in the best interests of their constituents by not toeing his and his party's line, he has become nothing more than a dictator.
When the President threatens to punish legislators for acting in the best interests of their constituents by not toeing his and his party's line, he has become nothing more than a dictator.
Remember, Hitler was democratically elected and appointed too.
Remember, Hitler was democratically elected and appointed too.
Hitler was appointed chancellor by the German president Von Hindenberg, then used democratic means in the Reichstag to consolidate power in the chancellery (through the NSDAP) until he eventually declared himself head of state.
