I want a steady server that i could run steam games off of, can I buy one for myself?
i want to save as much money as possible but when it comes to money the sky is the limit
Wait so you want like the box itself that you will have physically? Or just going on a site and paying for them to use up there bandwidth and power?
i want to keep it for myself. i just thought it through, and that actually sounds like a bad idea.
still, i'd like a good place to buy a server, i can buy a file hosting server on hp.com, but i need something with a bit more power.
new topic: what server hoster do you trust, is reliable and has the lowest rates?
You should build one.
if you make one you just need to make sure it stays up. most normal computers are fine for game servers, just make sure you have enough bandwidth

What kind of internet connection do you have?

Any old rig is good for a game server, really. I've got a 24 slot Team Fortress 2 server running on a Pentium D rig.
Ever since I got Fios, I've looked into hosting servers. Just any old computer is good. Bandwidth is more likely to be a bottle neck.
I've noticed that physical distance affects pign more in home run servers than other DS.
Upload speed and whether your ISP lets you use the right ports is the main thing, you can run a server on almost anything.

That's a whole lot of money for his needs.
He definatly doesn't need the gigabit connection and the 10TB of bandwidth for any number of servers that that machine can support. (Well maybe the bandwidth if there is a lot of custom content and fast downloads from the same machine.) Nor will he probably need that much disk space.
OP: You should probably state exactly what you want to run, as a single CSS server doesn't need a quad core and 1,000,000GB of RAM.
Midnight Gaming, FPSGS, HyperFrag; those are some very good ones. My friends have an FPSGS server they pay $30 a month for, 1000 FPS boosted Chicago.

OP where do you live?

Actually, go with Midnight Gaming.
I live in the D.C Metropolitan area
