The early gameplay videos looked really cool It's not an xcom game (They really shouldn't have used the name) but the idea of aliens in the 60's America seems very appealing to me

I mean obviously you aren't going to please everybody and I may being a little unjustifiably uncritical, but something with that at least explains the setting and gives it a reason to be in the series. Besides, having a running plotline of how an international earth defense initiative could be even conceived in a time as turbulent as the 1960's could make for some interesting cold war drama.
They could maybe get away with it by making this essentially a prequel that deals with humanity's first contact with alien life, and this is how that initial conception of the Xcom project was formed.
The big problem with that was that XCOM already had an origin story. So when this was announced, they'd revived the XCOM franchise for a reboot which only had the most tenuous resemblance to the original series. Granted, now that we have Enemy Unknown... [sup][sub]...Hold on, there was another Enemy Unknown.[/sub][/sup] Okay, so now that we have the new Enemy Unknown, it probably doesn't matter if it pulls a Bionic Commando because we actually have a pretty faithful XCOM game in the modern era.
Its not an XCOM game but it still looks rad so who cares how faithful it is to the series.
Good. Would have been a waste of time, cash, and resources to just throw the whole thing away because of some fussy people. Looking forward to this.
I really did like the whole art direction and idea behind that shooter they showed. I hope it gets made.
I'm excited. I was pretty disappointed when it seemed like it was getting nowhere. I'm a huge fan of the original UFO game, but even though I loved the strategy and the simulation aspects of that, it didn't mean this was bad at all. A silent alien invasion during a paranoid 60s era? Count me in, whether its' a shooter or not. I just hope it doesn't become too 'chest-high-wall-friendly'. EDIT: The base design of the original game was magnificent too - a perfect blend of the 60s 'government base' with sci fi.
