Title explanation. I am searching for a new GPU for my rig but as I don't know a great deal about them, I fear I may make a bad selection and end up regretting it later. Thusly, I am consulting you, Facepunch.
As they stand, my current specs are:
Gigabyte EP41-UD3L Motherboard
Intel Core 2 Duo E7500 2.93GHz Processor
2Gb Corsair RAM (Bear in mind I will be upgrading to 4Gb soon)
WD 500Gb HDD
400W PSU
ATi HD4670 512Mb GPU
1600x900 (16:9) Monitor
[editline]e[/editline]
I forgot to add, the games I, ideally, would like to play with decent framerate and not crummy graphics are:
TF2
BC2
AvP 3
Borderlands
L4D2
I am prepared to spend as much as £150, but no more. This equates to roughly $240.
Get a new PSU and look into getting a 4870, 4890, GTX 460, 5750, or a 5770.

What is your monitor resolution also?
Ah yes I forgot to mention that, I'll add it to the OP.
I'm on a 1600x900(16:9) Widescreen. I also have an 800x600 monitor that i might use for eyefinity or something. Although I don't intend on sacrificing my widescreen monitor for the other one for the sake of framerate.
AvP and Borderlands combined with your res and proc would warrant a 4870 or 460 1 gig at least. If you plan to max out AvP's texture and AO capabilities you'll need a 1.5-2gig set up period, and no, this is not arguable, it comes straight from Rebellion themselves. (note for idiots: two 1 gig cards in XFire or SLI is not 2 gigs, and AvP 2010 does not support SFR)
Well taking suggestions from you all, I've got a choice between the ASUS Radeon HD 5770 1 GB GDDR3 or the PALIT GTX 460 768MB GDDR5 that FINLEY recommended.
The best prices I could find for either cards were ~£125 for the 5770 or ~£125 for the GTX 460.
Both being equally priced, which would you choose?

Same price, no brainer. GTX460.
I'll sell you my 9800GTX+.

That isn't a whole lot better than his current card. Also, where can you get a 460 for £125?

because vram is that important

Depends on how much you like stuttering. Personally I'd say multiple seizures everytime you load Ruins or Facility are overrated. The engine offloads and culls the textures when not directly in view so if you don't have the memory on your card, you're going to to stutter every time, period, no matter how fast your ram or HD is.
Radeon HD5770 should do fine.
460/5770 will do you good.
