Today I was cleaning my PC of any dust, including the videocard heatsink and the CPU heatsink.
Unfortunately it seems that i have broke the videocard heatsink in the process. (In case you ask, i did it with a small smooth brush. Dumb I know yes, should have done it with compressed air.)
When the videocard is left uncooled it will survive for a good 5 minutes until my monitor loses signal.
I am typing on the very same computer at the moment, with a fan pointed directly at the videocard.
Of course is this isn't a good permanent solution since it makes a fuckload of noise whilst keeping the card just under 70 degrees Celsius.
Buying a new one of the same type videocard is a waste of money to be honest, it is a 9400GT which needed replacement anyway. I am not even sure you can even buy one of those anymore.
If I wanted to buy a better videocard i would need a whole new build since i would need to upgrade my mobo, psu and cpu.
My current (pre-)build:
MS Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit
AMD Athlon 64 X2 6000+
ASUSTeK Computer INC. M2N68-CM (AM2)
4.0GB Dual-Channel DDR2 @ 310MHz (5-5-5-15)
512MB GeForce 9400 GT (nVidia)
488GB SAMSUNG SAMSUNG HD502IJ ATA Device (IDE)
300w PSU of some company called Powerman
So facepunch, what is the best course of action?
Budget and location?
Problem is, I am broke (30 euro's isn't enough for a build now is it).
However i might discuss a bit with my dad, if he can stick out a hand.
Also I live in the Netherlands.
Okay I have some news, I got a new videocard from a local store, a GT220.
Now another question, I need to remove the old drivers of my videocard. What is the best way to do it?
DriverSweeper?
