So I've been playing the acoustic/electric guitar for probably 2 years with only tabs to accompany me and no teachers whatsoever and I've decided to take up lessons from a teacher. Thing is, the courses at the music schools I've seen offer these "pop" guitar courses. I've looked through and I'm contemplating on whether to take up classical or "pop" guitar course. I plan on moving on to playing electric rather than stick with classical although I've been told classical guitar would help me understand more. I'd like some opinions on whether which course would be a better option

I don't understand what you're playing and what you want to play.
But whatever..
Learning classical guitar is not a requirement to learn electric guitar and vice versa. They are quite different. If you were to spend 3 years learning classical guitar - of course it would be very helpful when beginning electric guitar, but if you had spent those 3 years playing electric guitar from the beginning instead, you'd be miles ahead anyway.
Just play the instrument you want to play.
