On July 11, authorities say a homeless man was sleeping along the side of a road when he was set on fire by fireworks, which were thrown from an SUV. Now, police have arrested 31-year-old Joshua Benavidez and 31-year-old Irene Enriquez for aggravated battery with great bodily harm, tampering with evidence, child abuse and conspiracy. The pair told KOB that they were trying to startle the man, and did not know that he had been burned until their arrest. “It was just a prank, it was just trying to scare him, that was it,” said Benavidez.
What the fuck.
"Oh my god, I only burnt down that orphanage as a joke! It was a prank!" Seriously, these prank fuckers are getting more extreme and more shitty each day.
I'm going to play the devil's advocate here and note that the two didn't actually mean to set the homeless man on fire. They supposedly just meant to startle him. It's a dick move but it's not morally reprehensible. As such, this title is misleading as hell.

Throwing fireworks at someone is like throwing a brick at someone, your intent may not be to cause serious harm but it's still very likely. Seriously, why the fuck would you even think that throwing fireworks at someone who has nothing and may very well be mentally disabled is a good idea to begin with.
People are still reckless, not really that shocking. Even so, I would think most people would be more careful.

Well same thing. Homeless people aren't fucking savage animals that you can shoot fireworks at for your amusement, they're people.
Wow they even brought all of their children with them to do it
Then throw the damn firecrackers away from the guy but still close enough that the noise would provide that startling effect?
or perhaps perhaps Just don't be a douchetard in general and leave the guy alone. That said, this is pretty typical behavior in Albuquerque, absolutely shitty city.
Didn't something like this happen before? It's was also a "prank".
Reminds me that I just saw Hobo with a Shotgun the other day.

"I'll just throw this stick of dynamite "close" to the dude.

the word prank has lost most of its meaning. it's supposed to be a harmless joke or trick on someone, not something that could potentially set someone on fucking fire
Who the hell throws fireworks at anybody? These people just wanted a quick laugh by ruining someone's day.
Oh he'll sure learn from that prank! Do ho ho!

Years ago In 7th grade these 2 kids decided to launch a firework at a group of people walking around the school and I was in that group and it exploded on my shoulder and perforated my ear drum in my right ear. If those things explode near your face or eyes they can cause serious damage.

Maybe "It wasn't Morally Reprehensible" were the wrong words, and I'm not saying in any way what they did was okay. I'm just saying that the title is a bit misleading as to what actually happened.
