I'm looking to upgrade my 1.5 year old build with a new graphics card.
Here's my current build:

The CPU is actually a 545 x2 unlocked to an x3.
I'm going to upgrade in phases until I entirely new parts, starting with the PSU and GPU.
I'll be getting this power supply, because my current one is pretty junk. But I haven't quite decided on the graphics card yet. I'm mainly looking at this 1gb 6950 and this 560 Ti.
There's a bit of a price difference, but from what i've seen the 6950 is worth a few dollars extra. I'll probably be getting that, but would love some suggestions from you guys. Budget for the card is $250 but I would prefer <$240.
6950 is slightly faster at 1920x1080, it's mainly down to preference and how much you want to pay.
560 Ti
For two displays, 6950.
I say the 560ti. Unless you actually plan on running games on the two screens. Nvidia has better OpenGL support and does nifty stuff like CUDA and physx.
I recently had the same conflict too and I went with the 560Ti. Why?
-It's cheaper
-Almost the same performance
-Quieter both in idle and load
-Lower temp both in idle and load
-CUDA/Physx
-Excellent overclocker
This thing is a great overclocker so I the performance can be on par or surpass the 6950 with lower temps.
Not for two screens.
Two screens automatically puts the 6950 ahead because of the larger vram, especially with screens that size.

Get the 2gb 6950 O-o

it's only 2 screens and they're different resolutions, who would want to play like that
I'm not sure playing over two different resolutions is even possible
Only get 2GB if you have 2 or more monitors. Also, don't base your purchase solely on benchmarks. For example, the game HAWX 2 (that airplane game) tends to preform better (giving you more FPS) on Nvidia cards, than the ATI ones. Just food for thought.
But I suggest going with 6950 1GB, many people say they are good.
You get Dirt 3 with the 6950 as well, and it's a bit better. I don't know how Gigabyte's cooler compares to MSI, but I imagine they're about the same, with the 6950 maybe having a slight advantage.
Get Sapphire Tech.
I have two screens, went with 560 Ti because I don't play on both since one is 1280 x 1024 and the other 1024 x 768
I ended up going with this one.
It's almost as much as a low end 2gb but I'd rather have the XFX warranty and a great cooler with a small factory overclock.
The HD6950 is really good bang for buck and , it unlocks to a 6970 easily but from what i heard the 560ti over-clocks really nicely to the performance of the 570
But as it has been said CUDA and PhysX etc on nvidia would make me go for the 560ti

hasn't been possible for a long time
The HD6950 is really good bang for buck and , it unlocks to a 6970 easily
Wish that were still true, but ATI made it so that it is physically impossible to unlock the extra shaders on those reference cards.
If there's not much in it, only consider AMD if pretty much all you do is directx gaming. Driver issues ruin pretty much everything else (even things they are supposedly good at like OpenCL on 69xx)

I wasent aware that it wasent possible anymore.
Yep they removed the little BIOS switches on the cards ): found that out the hard way.
Radeon is overrated shit that overheats. Propellers on my 4870 and 6770 burnt very easily so now i got gtx 560 Ti and everything is fine.
