I'm planning on revolutionizing the way that I play computer games and with the exciting video games that are either released or upcoming (omg Battlefield 4), it made me think about it. I read a article related to building your own gaming PC. In need of assistance and the "don't know what to do" thought going through my mind, my first stop is on the Facepunch forums. I need a few questions that need to be answered. Here we go.
Q1. What do I need to build my computer?
Q2. Suggested specs to run the upcoming Battlefield 4?
Q3. Best, recommended website to order "pieces" to build my own computer?
Q4. Is Intel Core really that necessary or can I run a computer simply with a graphics card?
Q5. One or two monitors?
Q6. Will 500-800 dollars worth give me the necessary things to create this computer AND run Battlefield 3? Do I need more money?
Q7. Curiosity here. Did building a gaming computer the best choice ever made in your gaming time?
Thanks for coming here on the thread and answering these questions. Apologies if there is another thread already created that is related to this thread.
Q1 - You would need some general tools eg screwdrivers, and if there is anything special eg thermal paste, it would most likely come with the parts
Q2 - Not 100% about this one
Q3 - Since you're in canada, try newegg
Q4 - You need a CPU, it can be AMD (cheaper, but not as good as Intel for gaming) or Intel. I recommend either using socket 1150 (New, fairly cheap), or socket 1155 (Not old, fairly cheap)
Q5 - For your budget I recommend 1 monitor for a start
Q6 - It will most likely do the trick, it would be able to run BF3.
Q7 - Yes, so much possibility with upgrades, and stuff like that.
Q1:Yep, what Morgan said. A #1 Philips head driver should be just about all you'll need.
Q2: I'll wager that if you can run BF3, you'll be able to run BF4 at a similar level.
Q3: Newegg is good, sometimes Tigerdirect has deals and stuff Newegg doesn't have, both are great though.
Q4:Not until the next next gen GPU's with integrated APU's on the die will you supposedly be able to boot with a GPU card(800 series nVidia supposedly), but even then it'll still be gimped compared to an actual CPU. The Intels cost a bit more than the AMDs, but they're worth it. Socket 1150 Intel processors were just released on the 1st, so they're brand new. They're only slightly better than the socket 1155 Intel processors so they're still a good choice.
Q6: Just don't expect to max everything out.
Q7: I can't stand FPS games on consoles anymore. I occasionally play BLOPS2 with some friends on Xbox but never for very long. The only game I play very often on a console is Forza 4 and that's because it's exclusive to Xbox, and I don't have a wheel for my Desktop.
Don't be afraid to get things second hand either, especially since the next gen Nvidia GPU's and Intel CPU's just came out. Just make sure you know what you're buying.
You should note that 500$-800$ is a big range. 500$ will get you a nice shiny netbook. 800$ will actually allow you to build a computer.
