Just Cause developer, Avalanche Studios, has announced that it is no longer working on current gen test kits.
Avalanche is now in full blown next gen development.
Avalanche has been one of the more vocal studios when it comes to next gen projects and has teased on a number of occasions that it has some big announcements in the works when it comes to the next generation of consoles.
Avalanche’s founder, Christofer Sundberg, tweeted a picture of all the studio's old debug Xbox 360s and Playstation 3s that the studio was 'shipping back' and confirmed it was 'going next gen' on our asses.
“We're shipping 'em back. Going next-gen on your asses.”
It has been rumoured that Avalanche is working on a Mad Max game, a ‘ground-breaking open-world action game’ with Square Enix and it has even stated that it wants to be the best open-world developer in the world, challenging Rockstar’s dominance with GTA 5.
Here are Avalanche Studios now defunct current gen test kits:

They're going next gen on our asses
The dawn of a new age.
My naaaymme is Bowlo Santos-Wii (U)
I'm sorry
I love the idea of a mad max game
The main plot will be that you have to ban everyone on a forum for bullshit reasons
If they want to be the best open world developer they really need to flesh out the things you can do in an open world other than ride on cars and blow stuff up.

You will now be able to poop with twice the bandwidth.
bring me Just cause 3.
Does this mean the end of shitty DirectX 9 ports for PC?
Only the first step towards that utopia

This legit made me laugh

Sundberg spoke of the mythical console on the hill. Soon that console will be a reality, and we will be crowned its kings

Side missions would be a game like DDR where you have to push the arrow keys at the right time to make your character correctly animate a large breasted female pyro.
My name is Bolo Santosi, I am the glorious leader of the next generation consoles.
Does this mean the end of shitty DirectX 9 ports for PC?
Nope, we'll get glorious OpenGL 4 ports instead.

And in six years you will be saying "i hope Playstation 5 comes out soon i am sick of these outdated dx11 ports"

Dynamic faction battles are a must. It's something that a lot of open world games bafflingly leave out, Just Cause suffered heavily from this. Yeah the world was pretty but there was literally nothing happening out there. Without any actual interaction between anyone it just makes everything feel dull. Random patrolling cars of one faction meeting a random patrolling car of another faction really doesn't count. I mean, Outside of the missions there's no real sense of conflict and because of that the conflict that does exist within missions feels plastic and cheap because you know it has been scripted and set up specifically for that and it's something that could never happen elsewhere on its own.

Or better than kings. Queens. *glam rock guitar and vocals*
Also it's nice to see Gen8 sliding in at last.

They're on the right track and ultimately the game was fun and successful. Hopefully Just Cause 3 would be an improvement on 2 just like 2 was on 1.
Does this mean the end of shitty DirectX 9 ports for PC?
just cause 2 doesnt even have support for direct x 9

Don't push it. Steam may be coming to Linux, but studios like this going to OpenGL 4? Well, you'll get an optimistic rating for that, for sure.
Dbut studios like this going to OpenGL 4?
They have to when writing it for the PS3 and Mac already, so why not?

There's nothing wrong with complaining about how consoles using ancient hardware technology is legitimately holding back game design for PCs.
I hope more devs push for this, the current generation is out of date by about 2-3 years now.
I mean I remember bethesda saying that fallout 3 was going to "push consoles to their limit" and that was 4 years ago on a terrible game engine.
Aaaand Microsoft will pull a dickmove with Windows 9 and completely disallow competing portable graphics API's
Direct3D is actually dependent on OpenGL so it's not going to happen.
Besides, it's not a legal thing to do, otherwise IE would be the only browser on Windows, or Google would be the only search engine usable on Chrome, etc
the current generation is out of date by about 2-3 years now.
Considering the current generation is 6 years old and the PC is always ahead of them.. Your estimations are off a bit.

lmao, what are you talking about, stop it.
lmao, what are you talking about, stop it.
It's not? I could have sworn I read that somewhere
If only rockstar weren't so naive, thinking current gen has no limitations.

I don't know. More stuff to do apart from explosions and driving vehicles is not a matter of hardware.

Nobody is implying games will become better with the new generation. They'll become bigger and more beautiful for sure though.
Oh man, just cause 2 was beautiful and ran amazingly for the hardware it was on. I cant even imagine what they're gonna do with even better tech.
