• Monitor Really Dim, Then Flickering, Then Back to Normal
    7 replies, posted
Happens when I first turn it on, the monitor will light up but stay really dim for about 10 minutes. After that it'll start flickering a little brighter for a few minutes before fully lighting up to its normal brightness. I've checked my display settings and everything, really not sure what it could be. This started about two days ago, thought it was just me being tired or something seeing the monitor dim like that, until it lit back up. Any ideas?
No way facepunch can help you with that, take it to official brand's service

It's an LCD monitor
Your backlight is probably dying, send it back to the store for RMA. [editline]13th November 2010[/editline] Or if you've got an adapter for your monitor check if the voltages are stable and not fluctuating.
You need to replace a single capacitor.

Unfortunately I got this whole setup when I was much younger and we got talked into buying from Dell. Last time I tried contacting them for help (harddrive failure, had to replace it) they tried to talk me into buying the same 250gb HDD for around $300 while I was browsing newegg for 1TB HDDs for not even half the price. I can work with the internals of my system but I've never messed with a monitor before, so no idea how to replace parts or any of that. Woke up today and the problem is still there. How do I go about checking the voltages?

And checking the voltages would be done using a multimeter and sticking one of the tips inside the plug and the other one on the outside (Depending on what type of adapter it is).
