Orwell called: Ukraine now has a "Ministry of Truth"
Ukraine has a new government ministry. This month, the parliament voted to create a ministry of information policy that will be led by Yuriy Stets, the head of the information security department of the national guard. According to the new minister, the information war against Russia cannot be won without it. But in resorting to such measures, does Ukraine not risk losing its battle for democracy?
Almost no one in Ukraine doubts that Russia is waging a propaganda war. The Russian actors Mikhail Porechenkov and Ivan Okhlobystin have become notorious [for supporting the separatists], and Ukrainians approve of the fact that their popular Russian TV serials were recently banned. But the idea that the government should oversee the information sphere was not universally welcomed. It had to be forced through parliament, with deputies called upon to vote on the composition of the cabinet as whole rather than individual ministers.
Journalist Mustafa Nayyem best described the circumstances surrounding the creation of the press ministry, saying: “We have not seen the details and we do not know what sort of monster we are creating”. Despite many abstentions, the law was passed.
The deputies had cause to be cautious. Under the terms of its creation, Stets’s ministry will receive wide powers to influence the media: officials will formulate and implement a “state information strategy” and take measures to protect citizens from “partial, ill-judged and unreliable information” and from manipulative technology. Its purview extends to registering media outlets and defining professional standards.
I have mixed feelings regarding this.
I realise that the Ukrainian people are currently having issues with the seperatists and the Russian sphere of influence, but I do not believe that regulating the flow of information is really the way to go.
I mean, I can somewhat understand what they are doing, seeing that we "kinda" did the same things 20 years back. However, I hope that this ministry will focuse more on spreading news that would otherwise be unseen, rather than fabricating false reports and articles.
Nonetheless, you know that something is fucked up when you need to control the flow of ideas and news. God damn it Ukraine, isn't there something else you can do?
The whole Ukrainian situation reminds me a lot of the French Revolution. The overthrow of their government prompted military intervention by Russia to retain regional stability, and the military crisis is just making the new government turn more radical to deal with the issues.
I wonder if it will end as well too :v:

French revolution? They are being invaded by agents of Russkireich. All measures are necessary to make sure this blight does not rape their women and steal their land once again like they once did to Europe all the way to Deutschland.
rt calls, it wants its truth back 8)

It's absolutely nothing like the French revolution.

The battle for democracy has never begun.
Imagine being a "Minster of Truth", you would win every argument, simply by stating your job title.
The article is written by "Maksim Vikhrov for Slon.ru"
Take this with a grain of salt.
Article seems misleading, however I do have mixed feelings. Russia has been raging one hell of a propaganda war, but I think the government may be going about this the wrong way.

Journalists are protected by the constitution of Ukraine and international law, this article is probably exagerating what's going on.
This was created to counter the Russian propaganda, not to oppress freedom of speech.
I don't believe both in Russia and in Ukraine... The EU looks forward opportunity to help Ukraine and Russia wants the industrial territory of Donietsk... For what? Always for money.
Also, I saw that Ukrainian gold reserves were loaded into an unindentified transport aircraft to... Washington! Because it's more safe to stock gold into Fed's vault.

So anything Ukraine do, don't believe it's for their good but they follow interests of European Union and American bankers/governements. Everything our politics do on this earth is for money... That's ashame.

Still kinda alarming.
There is no need to control information, unless you are gong to be third North Korea.

My theory is that if foreign policies were not about money we would be poor or dead.

lol that site is about as reputable as a bag of dicks...
also all international relations is not about money. The traditional view pursued for most of the 20th century is that it's about power and increasing one's own power. You would know this if you've taken a proper course in it instead of reading conspiritard.com everyday.
