Their exploits are detailed on the TipsForJesus Instagram account, including many photos of the lucky servers posing with their signed receipts. Tips include several in Ann Arbor, Michigan ($3,000 at Tio's Mexican Cafe, $2,000 at the Alley Bar), a few in Chicago ($3,000 at the Boundary, $5,000 at Paris Club), and a whole bunch in Los Angles ($1,000 at Fig & Olive, $10,000 at the Hungry Cat, $500 at Jumbo's Clown Room). TipsForJesus is also taking credit for a spree of big tips left at Ogden, Utah area restaurants back in August, although those receipts were not labeled TipsForJesus. It's unclear who is behind these tips, which the Daily Dot says amount to "more than $54,000" so far. It does seem to be possibly more than one person: the Instagram account uses the word "we" often, and before they recently switched to a TipsForJesus stamp for the receipts, the username was scrawled in more than one handwriting. TipsForJesus seems to be a college football fan, occasionally lining up with various football games (at Michigan and Notre Dame). A few also bear USC's slogan of "Fight On."
http://eater.com/archives/2013/12/02/mystery-tipper-gives-thousands-in-tips-across-the-us.php Whoever this person is, that is fucking nice. Also, he has a shitload of cash
Huh, comes from my area. Wonder who it is
That's super nice. Also a $3000 bar tab, this guy knows how to drink.
Maybe it is some rich guy who is going to die soon, so he is out on a mission to enjoy good liquor and helping random people.
I kind of dreamed of doing something like this if I was filthy rich.
I must know what a 'Patron Bourdou: Gimlet' is and what it tastes like and why its 102.50 (dollars?) for 1. [editline]2nd December 2013[/editline] Google is of no help for me :c
How much Patrón can this person have? Apparently credit card companies will reject all charges if you say the tip you received was like over 25%. Chances are the people that are doing this are hoping that the credit card company rejects the inflated tip as well as the original charge in order to get a free meal.
jesus's new trick is to turn water into patron now?

To be honest if I was rich I'd totally do something similar Although the tipsforjesus makes it sounds like a new tactic for some weird christian ministry.
Better hope for the servers that they don't work in places where they are required give up any tips or bullshit like that
Better hope for the servers that they don't work in places where they are required give up any tips or bullshit like that
That's illegal in the US though.
That's illegal in the US though.
need we bring up amy's baking company?
That's illegal in the US though.
But it is legal for them to collect all of the tips for the night and distribute it between the employees. Based off however many employees; if this happened for any of the people who got this lucky guy. That blows
Holy shit dude. My aunt works at Tio's. Mind blown. Still, good on this person. Props to whoever's doing it. It could even be a fellow facepuncher... :v:
But it is legal for them to collect all of the tips for the night and distribute it between the employees. Based off however many employees; if this happened for any of the people who got this lucky guy. That blows
Even if it was split up, it would still be a big win for any one of the employees that night.
if I was filthy rich I would essentially give money away like this, I dont need that much to live. Donate a whole bunch, buy rounds for entire bars, leave massive tips, etc.
I'm sure the tipper can be identified through the credit card info
What if it's heisenberg?
What if he isn't even that rich and still does this?
I'm sure the tipper can be identified through the credit card info
Is there not some sort of data protection law that prevents people doing this?
Is there not some sort of data protection law that prevents people doing this?
No, it helps detect fraud
Jesus Tipsfor did this, it says so right on the check. People are so blind these days
To be honest if I was rich I'd totally do something similar Although the tipsforjesus makes it sounds like a new tactic for some weird christian ministry.
I've got this weird feeling it's a response to that asshole pastor who refused to tip for a large sunday meal with some people from his ministry. Just a hunch, though.

Based off however many employees; if this happened for any of the people who got this lucky guy. That blows
Still a big boon. Could be worse, take for example the night my brother was working as a valet for a country club during a big party for rich people. They were making a lot in tips (which are evenly distributed amongst employees at the end of the night), and his piece of shit manager decided to fire a bunch of valets just before the end of the night, big bro included of course. At least he's working a job he loves now. He hated being a valet anyway. :v:
i fail to see why it shouldn't be dispersed evenly among the employees
People leave good tips when their service is exceptional and they want it to go to their server because they were responsible. So, tips are effectively an incentive to provide excellent service. If you can get tips from other peoples' hard work, you have no reason to do anything other than the bare minimum edit: what are you, a fuckin COMMIE?!
i fail to see why it shouldn't be dispersed evenly among the employees
It's a reasonable idea, since it makes it more fair, because the determining factor in tip size is how much the customer ordered. Table #1 orders steak + lobster combo dinner for 40 dollars, while table #2 orders breadsticks for 6 dollars. Same service, table one gives 8 dollars tip, while the other table gives 2 dollars. Trouble is, most servers wouldn't go with that system, because it punishes them if the other servers give shitty service. Not only that, but the incentive for giving quality service is diminished since you have to share your tip money with everybody else.
