I had a friend who played CSS competitively for 5 or 6 years using a trackball mouse
Boggles my mind as to how he was able to be so accurate

you get used to it, also it takes less effort to flick a ball around than an entire mouse

For 10-12 years I used to insist on playing my FPS games with arrow keys and used RMB for jump and I was pretty decent, used to do a lot of competitive CSS back in the day as well.
You get used to it to be honest, over the years I have seen all kinds of weird and wonderful setups people use to play games and still capable of being really good.
I game with a trackball all the time. I love it. As someone with wrist issues already, it really helps.
I actually have the model in the picture and an older, wired trackball and I love them both. My wired one is close to 10 years old and still going strong.
I use an emulated trackball but never a real one
it really doesn't seem that far fetched to me, but I'd never get flicks down even if I used a real one
I mean it's a lot more precise than a joystick, and joysticks are used for gaming. Though I can't really see any reason to get it over a normal mouse, unless you have the world's smallest desk.

While this is true, that's also console gaming. It's pretty well established that outside of casual play the mouse is the superior aiming peripheral. There's a reason pros don't use 360 pads at LAN games.

RMB jump is legit though, very common amongst quake players
My freshman roommate played League of Legends at platinum tier ranked using his laptop's trackpad. I believe anything is possible now if you've got the will.
