Syria declared a state of war and mobilized troops to neutralize "terrorists who threaten us," Al-Quds newspaper reported Thursday evening.
Operation "Bayrak al-Assad" was implemented secretly, mobilizing full military forces in Syria for concentrated offensives on cities across the country, according to the report.
The military operation is a continuation of Syrian President Bashar Assad's violent crackdown against pro-democracy activists which began in March.
The difference however, according to the Al-Quds report, is that with this declaration, Assad has declared that the state is no longer simply crushing terrorist elements during peacetime, but rather in a state of war.
Gaddafi number two.
needs moar oil
nothing like a threat to global energy security that'll get politicians moving.
Here we go again
So what, are they going to start gunning down entire cities instead of just towns and villages?
Are the people fighting back in any way besides protesting?
I don't believe so, and that just brings good reason for the UN to get involved, so they're smart for not fighting back.

There have been some mutual clashes with both sides taking causalities, but the vast majority of attacks have been against innocent civilians.
another civil war in the middle east?
I have a feeling this isn't going to be as pretty as Libya. People are going to be really divided on this one, since the US had normal-ish relations with Syria before, unlike Gaddafi.
The Middle Easterners will not stop fighting, will they?
The Middle Easterners will not stop fighting, will they?
Best expand that statement to:
Human beings will not stop fighting, will they?
It's funny because most of the "terrorists" are unarmed, peaceful, civilian protesters, sometimes plain civilians
Oh look another war.
Oh look another war.
Look. I don't care if you think war is good or not. Declaring war on those in your country who want to have a democracy is not a good thing. At all.
Oh look another war.
Revolution perhaps, soon? The people of other countries are looking around and realising that they dont have to take shit from their 'governments' or dictators anymore

revolutions in the east and africa have been taking place consistently for almost a hundred years now. this isn't something new, it's just the youth finding a way to kill their respective human rights-denying dictator

Did he say it was?

Only the dictator is in this case just going to use his army to kill the protesters until they give up.
Don't expect any aid from the west to go there too.
Why do these guy have to be so Syrias.
That was bad and you should feel bad.
No idea what to say?
Here we go again?
Man, I was just hoping for some silence from down there now. Get the attention back at Japan and the other fucked places..
Why did the title change?
ITT no one seems to have heard about the Syrian uprising despite it having begun six months ago

If intervention is viable then I'm all for it but I don't think it's as easy as Libya
Look. I don't care if you think war is good or not. Declaring war on those in your country who want to have a democracy is not a good thing. At all.
Yeah, all I was saying was "wow, another war." I never condoned what the government is doing, in fact more power to the people.
Did he say it was?
That sums my opinions up as well.
Why did the title change?
I guess Starpluck wasn't amused by it.

Holy mother of god, middle east,
Fuck off with the wars.

Except that the wars are in large part for independence of the people?
Except that the wars are in large part for independence of the people?
Not always.
This war, isn't really a war, its just the military slaughtering peaceful protesters and any civilians watching.
Except that the wars are in large part for independence of the people?
Don't care. The middle east is an attention whore. I'm sure of it.
Holy mother of god, middle east,

it'd be nice if they just got it all out of their systems and became democracies ASAP
stop having civil wars one at a time, just get it over with
[editline]9th September 2011[/editline]
