SEATTLE - Police and firefighters are responding to a man who has climbed to the top of Seattle's iconic Sequoia tree, next to the Macy's store downtown, and apparently is refusing to come down.
Crews brought a ladder truck to the scene, at the corner of Fourth Avenue and Stewart Street, after receiving reports of a man stuck in the upper branches of the tall tree.
The fire truck's ladder was extended to within a few feet of the man, then negotiators climbed up and are trying to speak with him.
So far he has refused to come down and has thrown an apple at medics. The man, with a long beard and wool cap, was also seen tossing small branches, orange peels, pine cones and other materials at rescuers. He later requested a pack of Camel Crush cigarettes.
A KOMO news team at the scene said the man is clearly agitated, shouting and "flipping the bird" at spectators. And now just before 3 p.m., the man began ripping branches off the top of the tree and throwing them at negotiators.
Thought he took three people hostage. Luckily I misread. I'm not familiar with this tree, is it important? :v:

Ah shit, that was a typo. I did mean to write "Tree"
This is what the article says
The iconic tree was planted at the site in the 1970s and was the focus of an ambitious effort to save it about six years ago after its condition deteriorated.
So kinda but not really.

It doesn't get more Pacific Northwest than this.
This is no laughing matter, the trees in Washington are some serious shit, the shit it takes to get a permit to cut one down is hell unless it's changed the past few years.
Hopefully the situation is resolved with out harm coming to the tree.
that title tries too hard
that title tries too hard
just realized a mod changed it to "three" instead of "tree"
nvm it was changed back
3 People AFAIK are not being taken hostage, but the tree certainly is feeling the pressure of being taken against it's will, and being ripped apart branch by branch...

How can you tell?
You know in the 90's a group tried to protect tree's in a similar fashion from a council from cutting it down after they change the dates for complains for the community to make an agrument for them to cut it down to after they had cut them down.
They used 12 cans of pepper spay one one person and even popped a persons eyeball.
Why do we care? Let him sit in the tree, who gives a shit. Stop wasting tax payer dollars on some guy who's sitting illegally in a tree.
You know how the government feels about green trees....
Oh no, it's raining :(
Today is a sad day.

He took the branches :(
The news chopper has been hovering for like two hours now and i am just imagining the amount of money they are wasting on fuel
Sounds like he's just having a bad day. I, like a true Washingtonian, would like to climb huge trees whenever I'm feeling down.
I can't tell if he's climbing down or just changing position.
I hope my family is okay.
This day will go down in history as the day mankind collectively lost its mind. Jesus christ so much weird shit happened today.
He's smoking now, apparently they have met his demands.
He's skinning the tree alive! Death penalty!

It's pretty fucked up that someone can take a tree hostage and people on FP will imply it's not important. What are you some kind of anti-treeist?
I love the article in the sidebar though

New development. Police have arrived with Pizza.
Still too early to determine if this is another one of the hostage takers demands.
This shit would never happen in Britain.
British police would break-dance to entice him to come down and join them.

The Lorax gives his full support to this guy.
I tabbed back in to see a crowd watching a guy sitting in a tree, amazing.
Jokes on him, that apple could have bought him another day of food
