(CNN) - Texas Gov. Rick Perry will not appear on the Virginia primary ballot after submitting a petition that didn't meet the commonwealth's requirements, the Virginia Republican Party announced Friday. In an announcement on their Twitter feed, the Virginia GOP wrote, "After verification, RPV has determined that Rick Perry did not submit the required 10k signatures and has not qualified for the VA primary." Perry was one of four candidates who submitted ballot petitions Thursday to the Virginia State Board of Elections. Former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney, Texas Rep. Ron Paul and former House Speaker Newt Gingrich also submitted petitions. That left three current candidates, Minnesota Rep. Michele Bachmann, former Utah Gov. Jon Huntsman and former Pennsylvania Sen. Rick Santorum, without a place on the Virginia ballot. The state party spent Friday verifying that the submitted petitions met the requirements to appear on the ballot. The Virginia GOP said on their Twitter feed Friday that Romney and Paul had both submitted enough signatures to appear on the ballot. Virginia requires candidates to submit petitions with 10,000 signatures from registered Virginia voters. Additionally, 400 signatures must come from voters in each of the commonwealth's eleven congressional districts. Perry's campaign said in a statement they were looking at the decision closely. "Despite aggressive efforts collecting thousands of Virginia signatures after Governor Perry's mid-August entry into the race, we were notified this evening of apparently falling short of the 10,000 voter signatures needed to qualify," Perry Communications Director Ray Sullivan said in a statement. "We will closely review the facts and law to determine whether an appeal or challenge is warranted." He continued, "This is an isolated situation and does not impact Governor Perry qualifying for the ballot in every other state. Gov. Perry has the utmost respect for the strong place Virginia holds in our nation's economic and military strength and in American history. He will continue to work hard to build strong support in Virginia and earn the trust of conservative-minded voters there." Virginia holds its Republican primary on March 6.
Source: http://politicalticker.blogs.cnn.com/2011/12/23/perry-ballot-petition-rejected-in-virginia/?hpt=hp_bn3
Good.
Fuck yea.
Huntsman's not bad, but Perry and Bachmann don't belong in the race.
My state does something good again.
For the non-Americans. What does this mean?
For the non-Americans. What does this mean?
Less of a chance for a fool to be elected into the White House.
For the non-Americans. What does this mean?
States elect through primaries who will run for president. Whom ever gets the most state gets the most officials at the Republican Convention where the said officials vote for their candidate to be the presidential nomination. Since Perry can't be voted in Virginia, he automatically will not get any officials from Virginia at the Republican Convention in the summer.
Great
So now Virginia voters can only vote for either Ron Paul or Mitt Romney?
So now Virginia voters can only vote for either Ron Paul or Mitt Romney?
And Gingrich, so far. But their petitions must first be approved. And the others haven't sent petitions yet at all and I believe they still have time to. It's just that Perry's got rejected outright. [editline]24th December 2011[/editline] My bad, Gingrich got rejected too :v: http://www.cnn.com/2011/12/24/politics/gop-virginia-primary/index.html?hpt=hp_t1
I'm sorry, but no matter how bad a politician someone is, everyone should have a fair chance for being voted. You'd all scream bullshit if a state rejected a ballot for someone you liked.
I'm sorry, but no matter how bad a politician someone is, everyone should have a fair chance for being voted. It's called "democracy" :v:

is mitt romney smart at all
My state is so boss :yarr:
is mitt romney smart at all
He's probably very intelligent he's also a corporate whore
is mitt romney smart at all
What do you mean? Compared to the other candidates Mitt Romney seems very moderate and somewhat intelligent. However, a schizophrenic would look enlightened compared to the other candidates. So I don't know what that says about Mitt.
Mitt Romney is just a slimeball. It sucks for Huntsman that he's getting portrayed as "the same as Romney" cause he seems a lot more genuine and responsible. I like him.

I like him.
It's just because they're both Mormons and rather moderate compared to the rest. Sucks though, I like Huntsman
Rick Perry is an idiot, glad he has less of a chance at being elected now. He's fucked Texas over in the near-decade (?) he's been in office, and almost royally fucked the state by trying to make a super highway from one end of the state to the other that would be useless and condemn thousands of businesses and homes. Thank god it was shot down, but not before selling major strips of roads and highways to private corporations and forcing you to pay $9 a trip to use them.
The reason Perry didn't end up on the ballot is because the majority of his 10,000 votes were write-in votes, which Virginia does not accept. Therefore he will not be on the ballot.
I haven't really read about Huntsman that much. Can someone give me a quick summary about him?
I haven't really read about Huntsman that much. Can someone give me a quick summary about him?
He supports the usual kind of social conservative republican fare, but is more moderate than the current batshit 'SLAUGHTER GAYS' and 'NUKE IRAN' horde of current republican candidates [editline]25th December 2011[/editline] To be honest, if I had to pick a Republican president it would be Ron Paul, and I'd move to a liberal state and watch as congress shoots down everything he tries. [editline]25th December 2011[/editline] He's a pro business tax cutter, would try to make abortion illegal, for homosexual civil unions with some of the same benefits as marriage, he says he wants to do something about climate change but wants to wait until America is richer until putting an emission trading market into place, pretty pro-israel but a bit dove-ish otherwise, and anti-undocumented immigration, but less so than other republican candidates. [editline]25th December 2011[/editline] But on the plus side he feels there should definitely be a separation between church and state, and ostensibly supports science

I'm usually on the conservative side of things, and I hate Perry with a passion. Double proud since I am a Virginian.
He's also extremely rich and dropped out of highschool to play in a band.
He's also extremely rich and dropped out of highschool to play in a band.
So? What's wrong with being rich? Anyways, he was also a great governor who had an astounding approval rating, and served as an ambassador to China under Obama. He fluently speaks Mandarin and went to Harvard. I might not always agree with him, but he's certainly an intelligent and accomplished guy that would be a great president.
