How Facepunch has saved my life in a matter of days.

Before I entered this site, I was a normal poster at sites like NeoGaf and IGN. These sites made me feel like my opinion was wanted, but I still had an empty void within me. Then last week, a terrible chain of events led me to the brink of suicide. However, a friend of mine invited me to this site in an attempt to cheer me up, and I believe it saved my life. Below is my predicament, but you don't have to hear me out and skip this. It'd mean a lot me if you listen, though.
My mom is currently in a mental hospital (Bless her soul) because she says that I am a horrible son without even doing anything wrong. Shes been on a steady decline over the past months, but last week she attempted suicide as a result, and is now in an awful mental state. I still love her deeply, but she never lets me visit and it truly breaks my heart. :smith: My dad also treats me awkwardly, and calls me his brother more than his son. This sounds okay at first, but as a father he was never there for me. For instance, the first time he hugged me was at my elementary school 'graduation', when my uncle bet him $20 that he would do it. I guess I could I wasn't really loved as a child, and as a result I let people walk all over me until 9th grade.
Given my parents' childhoods, however, I guess i can't really criticize. My mom was the daughter of the town's alcoholic and beat her up on a daily basis, while her sister got all the love and attention. My dad has Post-Traumatic Stress Syndrome after escaping a civil war in his home country, and fled to the US when he was 8. I guess both of their past experiences led to my demise a few days ago...
Okay, fast forward to a few days ago....
I was a conplete wreck when they took my mom to Sheppard Pratt. My dad was so angry at me, though I didn't do anything, and I didn't want to tell my friends because they all have their own problems. I did tell my girlfriend, however, and she began to open my eyes about the kind of person that I am. However, with my poor mental state, I temporarily ignored her and began getting thoughts of suicide. I mean, my mom was in a mental hospital, my family (For the majority) live out of the country or don't speak English, and with my friends having problems I saw no real good in the world. Then... Everything changed 3 days ago when one friend showed me this site.
Okay, if you skipped my whole back story, you can start here.
Apparently my girlfriend told a friend of mine, Jon, that I was feeling down and he decided to help me. He linked me on my Facebook to LMAO pics and it really gave me a good laugh. Keep in mind, I hadn't smiled in over a week because of everything, and this site gave me that pleasure. As I went on, I cheked all of the threads in General Discussion, like the MSPA adventures and that one with the homeless guy shitting on some guy's lawn and it brightned up my day. Plus all of the witty posters, the whole ratings system, the people i've met here along the way... It brightened up my life, even if it was for a few minutes. Either way, it was enough to put my thoughts of suicide asode and let myself think rationally, and it saved my life. My mom will hopefully be out of the hospital in a few weeks, I have a very loving girlfriend, and a bright future ahead of me in college (I'm 18 and a senior).
So thank you, everybody. I wanted all of you to know that over the past few days, you have all made me into a new person. I'm looking forward to being a part of your site for the years to come.
~Balrog.
P.S. - If you know what my username and avatar is from, PM me  I'd love to make more friends.

Hey me too! I haven't a single friend on facepunch since 2006. Mostly just because none of you are worthy, of course. (:smith:)
But go ahead and add me if you want.
Didn't we save some other dude a few weeks ago.
I'm a fucking super hero.
This thread warms my heart.
And the internet saves another. Usually the internet ruins people. I hope you don't feel done like that ever again that you are at the brink of suicide.
Pictures saved your life, not FP.
I've never had my opinion wanted here :argh:

memes end depression
fact
FP is always seen as a bit of a git on the whole because it is filled with people offending each other and acting like prats. However when something serious appears a whole new side of Facepunch appears who will honestly do anything in there power to help a fellow forum member.
Take a look at the first few pages of the first Get Stuff Off Your Chest thread to see what I mean.
