It is that time of year again. The powder is falling, the mountain you frequent is firing up the old guns, or is already open. Ski time. Skiing has something for everyone. There are many different types of skiing disciplines. Alpine: This is your typical downhill skiing. This is what most people think of, and what most people do the first time they ever ski. Alpine can be very laid back, or ultra competitive. Alpine competitions known as slalom, giant-slalom, and down-hill. Also called newschool, free ride involves park elements and groomed ramps. This type of skiing utilizes twin tip skis and the terrain parks that were originally made for snowboarders. Freestyle also includes free ride, which is the big mountain sort of stuff, or heli skiing. Nordic is the name for cross country skiing. This can include the cross country racing as shown in the olympics, or Biathalon. Ski jumping is also a category of Nordic. Nordic is the original ski style, which everything else evolved from. Do any other Facepunchers ski? I ride 2011 Nordica Double Six twins. I do mostly freestyle and all mountain sort of stuff. Anybody else love to ski?
I did in a video game once.

Well, there's a lot of hatred towards snowboarding if you ski, and skiing if you snowboard, so hopefully we can all be peaceful in this thread and leave that shit at the mountain <3 I've been snowboarding for four years in the Canadian Rockies, although I just moved to Nova Scotia this past summer so I'm not sure what's in store for me this season, but probably not a whole lot. I loved going to the mountains but I spend a ton of time in the terrain parks too.
i love skiing. I've been going since i was six. My favorite mountain is Whistler Blackcomb

Even I think Skiing is better than doing nothing, and I've been a snowboarder all my life. I just wish we had more snow where I live so that I could do anything...
I do both. I like to ski better though.
I was thinking about adding a snowboarding section, but I do not know anything about it. I could care less about ski vs. snowboarding. It is stupid to argue. We are all children of the mountain.
Going Snowboarding in Italy in two weeks :3
I went skiing once, it was fun when I was able to stand up for more than five minutes without falling and getting snow in every possible oraface.
One time last season around the end of the day two of my friends (One skier one boarder) decided to switch at the top of the mountain and race down. Neither had ever done the other. Hilarity ensued haha. The entire time the friend who had switched his board for the skies was trying to knock down my other friend with the poles.
I teach skiing as a winter job. PSIA certified motherfuckers.
Where do you teach?
A small ski area in western NY, why?
A small ski area in western NY, why?
Stalking your entire existence. But just on the off chance it was where I went. I may make it up to holiday valley this year though.

Stupid sexy Flanders...
I do snowboarding but all my skiing friends hate that I'm slower. I go like once a year so don't expect me to be any good.
i broke my fucking ankle skiing fuck this shit man im staying on my computer where its safe
Skiing... the best sport in the world, and most fun too :p Going to ski in California in Jan, and Canada in Feb. Can't wait!
I ski some freestyle but mostly alpine shit's fun
I love skiing :buddy: although i only go for a week once a year with my family. also, snowblades, much more fun than regular skis :buddy:
Skiing rules i love it, too bad i never had the chance yet :( I'd like to try snowboarding too!
I used to go skiing for a couple of weeks a year for the last 13 years, not been this year due to a knee injury though. Is probably my favourite sport, love Whistler and Mont Tremblant.
also, snowblades, much more fun than regular skis :buddy:
Except for the part where snowblade bindings dont release with twisting impacts so they break both the bones in your lower leg if you fall wrong while wearing them. And you half like half the control you do with normal sized skis. And you look like a goofball without poles.
I love snowboarding. It hurts your ass but is the exact oposite from skiing. Skiing, you have to shift forward to move forward, snowboarding is pretty much keeping your ass back. Snowboarding hurts your bum
Skiing looks like it'd be great fun, and I'd love to go try it out sometime, but I don't think I'd make a very graceful winter sports participant. I have some experience in other events, however: I once squatted on a snowboard as it went down a gentle incline, but I fell off at the bottom, and then I went inside because it was ass-clenchingly cold out.
I'm going to Obergurgl, Austria after christmas, its a great resort. I'm wondering if I should try learn to snowboard or start training to be a ski intructor, I'm getting a bit bored of Apline skiing. Hell, I might try learning some tricks in freestyle. I've been skiing for about 6-7 years now.

I went skiing once yeas ago with the school. It's good and all but costs so much with all the gear and stuff.
