I sure do hope this is actually going to happen.
A cursory glance at any U.K. based music website will find some mention of Spotify. The streaming music service has proved to be hugely popular in Europe, where its easy-to-use interface and broad range of tracks has struck a chord with listeners. Now, founder Daniel Ek is set to bring the service to the U.S.
No firm date has been set for Spotify’s U.S. launch, but Ek has spoken to Wired about his plan to set up an office in New York in preparation for the launch. “Our hope is to get something up and running before the end of the year,” Ek said. “We get around a thousand emails a week from people in the U.S. who want access to Spotify, so we know that there’s a demand for the product.”
The tricky issue of how to make money from streaming music hasn’t been solved by the Spotify founder, but he is working on it. “It is important for us, though, to figure out the best execution, as we are very serious about being able to monetize the content that we license,” he said. With high quality (320kps) streams available to paid subscribers, and an excellent free service also available, a U.S. version of Spotify looks set to be a very attractive proposition.
You guys really are missing out on this so far. Not a day goes by where i don't use spotify.
Woohoo! Great news!
What's so good about Spotify anyway? I think it's crap, it hardly ever has the whole discography (for music I listen to anyway) and I would much rather have my music locally, that way it can be transferred onto iPods/Mp3 players etc.
Meh, I'd rather just build up a nice library of music using Winamp...
We have Pandora, they have Spotify, and soon we will have both.
Fuck yea America.
