Sony Confirms PlayStation 4 Does Not Have a Power Brick
Shuhei Yoshida, Sony President of Worldwide Studios, has confirmed via Twitter that the PlayStation 4 will not use a power brick. Instead, the power supply will be housed internally, not unlike the Xbox One.
Additional details regarding the PlayStation 4's power supply and how the company managed to fit it within the console's relatively small casing are still unknown, but at least we have a better idea of what Sony has in store for us later this year.
Can't help but think that will cause a lot of overheating.

ps3 was exactly the same and that didnt really overheat
power supplies have improved a hell of a lot in recent years
I'm actually pretty ignorant about power usage, what is the benefit about not having a power brick?

It's basically just built-in so you don't need to have it laying around outside the box.

It would've been cool if it came with a power brick and the console was even smaller!

Huh? Xbox One has a power brick as far as I know
so that's what that big black thing that you plug the xbox into was. huh.
edit: ok turbonerds you can stop rating me dumb because i'm not a super computer geek and know about every last bit of technology

I'd assume it's a typo.

Indeed, why else would it have the same shaped power plug as last generation?

Honestly depends on the ventilation you give it. Mine's in an open cupboard, but still manages to stoke the fans up to full speed when doing something as simple as watching a DVD. Probably my bad though, as I've not taken the compressed air to it for a while.
Oh thank fucking god, and hopefully it has this as its power cord

Didn't it always been like that? My PS3 does.

I never owned a PS3 but I know some companies include the bulkiest ac adaptors that they fit no where on any powerboard so you have to either sacrifice a few devices and use them when something else isnt in use orrr get an another powerboard
if anything this just allows third party companies to monetize on sucking money from those suckers who think they need additional console fans, etc
I'd prefer a power brick, but whatever, if it actually became a big issue I guess they'd probably recall it or something.

Why would you prefer one?

Feels nicer? More secure? Placebo effect?

I've never encountered a Sony console that does that. They use the standard UK adapters over here. So it's likely they will use the standard adapters everywhere.

But it's certainly not the first two? If anything it's another component to lose when moving, another thing to throw behind your TV and forget, one more thing to make placing your console on a shelf a pain in the ass.

I sure hope not, I'm european :v:

I thought Placebo only works if you think something works not when you know it don't.

Yep. I have a fat PS3 40gb (upgraded it to 500gb a few days ago but still) and I've had it since the release of GTAIV. It is still pretty quiet and never bothers me. Compared to my 360 that I had before my PS3 which sounded like fucking hell. To the point where it ruined more quiet parts of videogames because of the constant buzzing.

Usually on purpose because what they're powering would require more than usual amounts of power so they blocked out the other slots so you don't overwork it. This could be wrong, just what I read and it makes sense to me.
I'm totally ignorant about these things, but if I were to use it in Japan and the UK, I wouldn't need a transformer?
Edit: Or any other country with a different voltage and frequency for that matter.

The PS4 is a feat of engineering. They manage to house the PSU internally, have much better hardware and still manage to keep it smaller than the Xbox One, whilst $100 cheaper.

Maybe when they do the Slim versions.
I wonder how much different from the model they showed at E3 its gonna be though. That was a massively awesome design.

Why are you talking about external AC adaptors when the Playstation have an internal PSU?
You can use any plug you want, as long as you supply the console with 100-240 V
