Emergency crews were responding Wednesday night after a report of a major explosion at a burning fertilizer plant in West north of Waco.
West firefighters were dispatched to the plant earlier in the evening after an earlier fire rekindled.
3 explosions in 3 days. I feel the media is paying attention to common accidents due to boston for more viewers.

It's like the spree of shootings the media was covering late last year.
That's a shitty situation.
In all seriousness, hope everyone's okay. I always wonder if it's the news' fault that a bunch of similar stories show up right after the other.

The source for this article is a local source.
I didn't know local media reporting about a local "major" explosion, is reason enough to say they're focusing on explosions more.
Take with a grain of salt until this is confirmed.

It fully is. 'Explosion' is the buzzword right now. Late last year, 'shooting' was the word, and even common street-thugs murdering eachother was called a 'shooting', not gang violence or murder.

I hate to break it to you, but to murder someone with a gun you got to do a lil 'shooting'.

Well you could beat them with the gun
Waco? Fertilizer?
Oh, if this had happened on Friday I would swear it was the ghost of Timothy McVeigh that returned to haunt us.
refineries, plants, and factories blow up a lot more than people think.

or stab them with bullets.

Well, yes, but a 'shooting' in crime terms is a spree-crime, not single murders.
A shooting can refer to any number of types of assaults by guns, including school shootings, mass murder, and shooting spree, in which a group or individual shoots a number of people in a single event
What about 'gang violence' as you forwarded it yourself.
Basically you just want guns out of the frame completely for what ever vested purposes.

Ahh, I see. Just like how "Anonymous" is linked to any situation where hacking is involved.
Damn, even the news is fucked up.

No, I don't mind it if you say "One man shot dead on street". However, if you right after Sandy Hook, headline the same article about the same man getting shot to death as "Shooting in *townname here* leaves at least one vicitim dead", you are just milking the fuckin' hypecow.

Where is the data on this any how?
Facepunch can turn literally any thread into a gun debate.

This is a journalism debate. On how newspapers are using words related to major events to promote less major stories, and sort stories similar to major events over other stories.

Look, sweetcheeks, I'm not gonna go look for articles five months back to find the couple examples of regular murder being proclaimed a shooting just for this argument. See this as winning if you want, I don't care.

That looks like a nuke was dropped.

Looks more like goddamn Halifax.

The pepcon plant that blew years back had 9,000,000lbs of explosive material detonate all at once and this makes it look like a firecracker.
That thing probably had the power of a small nuke.

that picture is a few years old from an unrelated explosion. Someone on Twitter was just being dumb
I seriously hope this isn't related to what happened in Boston.
Because if it is, then we've got something really big happening.
