I don't know much about this guy, but I like him already: http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/the-fix/wp/2014/08/06/justin-amash-won-on-tuesday-and-then-things-got-interesting-video/
Politicians who win campaigns, no matter how dirty, will almost always kiss and make up with their political opponents in their election-night speeches. Rep. Justin Amash (R-Mich.), of course, is not your average politician. After defeating a Chamber of Commerce-backed candidate in his primary by 14 percentage points on Tuesday, the Ron Paul ally set about settling a few scores. Former congressman Pete Hoekstra (R-Mich.), who backed challenger Brian Ellis? "You are a disgrace. And I'm glad we could hand you one more loss before you fade into total obscurity and irrelevance." (Hoekstra lost the state's 2012 Senate race -- and in the 2010 gubernatorial primary.) Ellis? "You owe my family and this community an apology for your disgusting, despicable smear campaign. You had the audacity to try and call me today after running a campaign that was called the nastiest in the country. I ran for office to stop people like you." Ellis in one ad referred to a quote from Rep. Devin Nunes (R-Calif.), who labeled Amash "Al Qaeda's best friend in Congress." That’s pretty disgusting."
Wouldn't he be able to sue for slander and defamation about being called "al-Qaeda’s best friend in Congress"?
He's what the people need and the one they deserve.
It's a pleasant change to see someone in this position exercise the 1st amendment with resolve.
We need more republicans like this.
Wouldn't he be able to sue for slander and defamation about being called "al-Qaeda’s best friend in Congress"?
I'm not sure. If he can he should, hopefully it would discourage these kind of attacks in the future.
Wouldn't he be able to sue for slander and defamation about being called "al-Qaeda’s best friend in Congress"?
No he couldn't, because the ad in question claims to be quoting what someone else has said. It's a dumb loophole, but it gets Ellis off the hook.

Like 'I believe he's al-Queda's best friend in congress', you aren't passing it off as fact and are just stating your opinion, but it carries the same message. Anyone else get frustrated by the constant clapping and hooting in speeches? Why can't they let the man do his speech then give one big applause instead of interrupting him after every statement to clap for 10 seconds.

Seriously though, Amash has some pretty good beliefs. I don't agree fully with all of them but I would vote for him over most other candidates of either party.
In a later TV interview, Amash said: "I’m an Arab-American, and he has the audacity to say I’m al-Qaeda’s best friend in Congress? That’s pretty disgusting."
He's an Arab-American in a republican primary. That sort of thing is to be expected lol.
I'd thought that he had ran for office to die with his city
He's an Arab-American in a republican primary. That sort of thing is to be expected lol.
But thats the thing. It shouldn't be expected.
But thats the thing. It shouldn't be expected.
It is awful, but everyone knows that the Republican Party has a massive issue with racism, especially when it comes to Arabs.

He's never missed a vote and on his facebook you can see why he voted the way he did. I don't agree with a lot of the stuff he votes for, but he's a real good guy. [sp]I voted for him in the primary because his opponent was just a hugely negative guy that would have been WAY worse, plus R always wins this district.[/sp] Also he's not just Arab-American, he's Palestinian and Syrian.
