• Multiple BSODs, 100% Disk Usage

Decided to try and fix my shitty computer after giving up for 2 months I've gotten... SYSTEM_SERVICE_EXCEPTION ATTEMPTED_WRITE_TO_READONLY_MEMORY CRITICAL_STRUCTURE_CORRUPTION Among a couple others. I can't find a fix, or in some cases, can't fix it because the latter happens: -The system freezes, then restarts -While in the "Windows didn't startup properly" thingo, where you can troubleshoot and that, I get these BSODs. Also, I typically have 100% Disk Usage while I am able to access my computer. Stopping Superfetch, Windows Search and turning off notifications no longer works. Prior to upgrading to Win 10 (From Win 7), I had issues with malware/viruses, though I should've fixed them as I used a plethora of anti-virus and anti-malware problems. Please help, FP [editline]5th July 2016[/editline] I also just got an IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL BSOD then.
Have you tried a Clean install of windows 10?
Have you tried a Clean install of windows 10?
Several.
Sounds like RAM & HDD is messed up.. Could you give us some specs too?
Sounds like RAM & HDD is messed up..
If I need to get a new HDD; so be it. I just want to fix this. [editline]5th July 2016[/editline] I replaced RAM 2 months ago, when I was trying to fix this but nothing happened as well. [editline]5th July 2016[/editline]
Sounds like RAM & HDD is messed up.. Could you give us some specs too?
Sure, lemme get em real quick. [editline]5th July 2016[/editline] GPU - Sapphire Radeon HD 7870 CPU - AMD FX-4100 HDD - It's Hitachi something Mobo - ASRock Extreme4 970 I can get more specifics if required, I'll need to track it down, I have a list somewhere. [editline]5th July 2016[/editline] I just had a freeze without an auto restart. [editline]5th July 2016[/editline] New BSOD - CRITICAL_PROCESS_DIED [editline]5th July 2016[/editline] PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA, another for the list! [editline]5th July 2016[/editline] ATTEMPTED_EXECUTE_OF_NONEXECUTE_MEMORY, another! [editline]5th July 2016[/editline] KERNEL_SECURITY_CHECK_FAILURE, man this is turning out to be some list! [editline]5th July 2016[/editline] BSODs happening way more frequent, almost always happening on bootup. [editline]5th July 2016[/editline] I literally got a BSOD while restoring.
Sounds like the hard drive dying, try a different drive if you have one handy.
Okay, now it's saying I have more than one drive???
It definitely sounds like a hardware issue, especially from the nonpaged area bluescreen, that was a common one when my hard drive was dying.
Sounds like the hard drive dying, try a different drive if you have one handy.
I unfortunately don't have one, but I wouldnt be surprised if its the hardrive. I might just cough up the cash for one, this one was only 500gb anyway so an upgrade was due anyway.
You can pick up 1TB or greater for pretty cheap now, I recommend getting a small SSD as well for Windows though.
Good enough replacement? https://www.pccasegear.com/products/20871/toshiba-dt01aca100-1tb-7200rpm
I haven't had any experiences with Toshiba drives, but I've never had an issue with Western Digital. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=9SIA4841F03500&cm_re=wd_black-_-22-236-625-_-Product
Odd, my only experience with WD was an external drive that died out rather quick
The two WD Blacks running in my house have been running for quite some time now. [editline]e[/editline] As has the one I put into someone's build two or three years ago.
I have recently recommended some friends some WD Blacks, and have actually come to the conclusion that they make a lot of noise due to vibrations. (I'm not saying WD is bad, their Reds are glorious) Seagate makes good drives, I have a 1.5tb that's like 6 years old if not more.. If you want to give them a go, this is a good 1tb model, they also sell it as 2tb. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822178381 If you want to buy an SSD I highly recommend Samsung 850 Evo, but would say minimum 120gb for office computer, otherwise minimum 250gb.

The price increase isn't worth it for the 1% of the time when something is actually on the cache disk.
Looking at this, good? http://www.dcomponline.com.au/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=38_251_39_42&products_id=113
So a WD Red would be okay?
WD Red would be great if you're not really looking for good performance out of a platter drive. WD Re and Black are absolutely perfect for performance and WD Re's are incredible work horses. While I have had some WD Blacks fail on me in the past, they are pretty good disks. But I also have WD Disks between 20k and 95k hours on them still in use and in good health (Well, the 95k isn't in the best of health, but its 13 years old). If I recall correctly though, the WD Red is more optimized for a NAS device and aren't really the best solution for a desktop. I think they're vulnerable a lot of vibrations from something like a nearby fan. SSHD's in my opinion and experience are a complete waste of breath and money. If you want SSD performance, get an SSD. If you want longevity get a HDD. Don't mix them together and think you're making a compromise. All you are doing is wasting money. And try to stay away from Hitachi. They're just not that good, they're just cheap and not made to last. You're likely only to see around 20k hours before prefailure.
I'm not a power/optimization freak, I just want something I can game on. So, WD Red is a good, or bad idea? Not exactly sure what you're making at...
I'm not a power/optimization freak, I just want something I can game on. So, WD Red is a good, or bad idea? Not exactly sure what you're making at...
The WD Red would be a better choice for you. It'll do what you're asking, but their lineage is NAS (Archival, network attached storage). But in a desktop it'll be fine for the most part.
Okay, WD Red it is. Is there anything I need to know about this, or should I just be fine to swap the Hitachi for the WD Red, just using the stuff I used with the Hitachi? Sorry I'm not too good with this stuff. [editline]6th July 2016[/editline] Also, how do I go about installing an OS? (Win 7)
If you have an image of windows 7 already on a DVD, you can just use a DVDROM for that. If you're using it from an ISO, you can "burn" it to a thumbdrive that is greater than 4GB in size. For that you can use a tool like RUFUS. If you're feeling crafty, you can learn how to make a clone of your existing drive and place it on the new disk when its ready. That you can use a tool like clonezilla or norton ghost. If you are just going to install the OS to the new disk and copy things over. Make sure you disconnect the old drive first and then do the install. Once everything is done, attach the old drive and make sure in BIOS it is on the end of the boot order. Then drag and drop from the hitachi to the new drive and you're set. You can also use things like user state migration tool, but that will require some setting up. So if you're not familiar with it, dragging and dropping is the best method.
That's an SSHD, never ever buy those. I'm used to searching for stuff on a different site. No, I would never recommend SSHD's. They don't really make much sense. [editline]6th July 2016[/editline] I believe this was the one I was actually looking for: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?item=N82E16822148840 [editline]6th July 2016[/editline]
Also, how do I go about installing an OS? (Win 7)
You can freely download Windows 7 ISO, and use this tool: http://wudt.codeplex.com/ - It's official and designed for it, it works way better than anything else I've tried. If you should plan on installing Windows 10 instead, then they have a tool that also downloads it for you. https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10/ (Also, why does flagdog think I'm in germany? :S)
The WD Red would be a better choice for you. It'll do what you're asking, but their lineage is NAS (Archival, network attached storage). [editline]6th July 2016[/editline]
(Also, why does flagdog think I'm in germany? :S)
It's okay flagdog thinks I'm in the void or something.
The fact that the Red is 5400rpm is exactly why I recommend the Black. The Red is more for storage rather than constant reading/writing.
I never said to use Reds, I just said I'm using Red, and actually thats on my server... I use Seagate otherwise, which is why I recommended such a drive (Although I did accidentally link a SSHD at first though).
I'm not a performance freak, I'm just getting this for a quick fix to play Rust with mates, it'll do the job good enough, right? It's not like it's going to be terrible? [editline]7th July 2016[/editline] Going to try get a black
We use Toshiba drives at work and they're perfectly OK and are quite solid.
I wouldn't get a red. Games with streaming textures might have issues with that fact it's a 5400rpm drive.
Yeah the problem will be with microstuttering due to the low rotational speed. I told him that their lineage is archival/NAS. Honestly a WD Blue would be a better idea. I wouldn't settle anything less than a WD Black, but thats me. I have had good results with them in the past. Blue's maybe not too much of a good track record.
