Plane hits Ferris wheel north of Sydney, trapping four No-one was seriously injured in the incident, officials say An ultra-light plane has crashed into a Ferris wheel in a village north of Sydney, trapping four people, Australian officials say. The Cheetah S200 plane with two men aboard did not topple the wheel after hitting it during a festival in the village of Old Bar. The men and two children at the top of the wheel were trapped for some time before being rescued by a crane. There were no serious injuries in Saturday's incident, the officials say. 'Get the damn kids out' "Thankfully, everyone was taken down and were able to walk away from it," New South Wales Rural Fire Service spokesman Ben Shepherd said after the incident in Old Bar, some 220 miles (350km) north of Sydney. Police said the two children remained trapped on the wheel for about 90 minutes. The two men spent almost three hours in the plane's wreckage, some 10m (30ft) above the ground. The aircraft was leaking fuel, and rescue teams had to spray foam to reduce the risk of it exploding. One of the men in the plane, who local media named as John, said he and the pilot had urged the rescuers to free the children first. "Don't worry about us. Just get the damn kids out," he said. The aircraft reportedly failed to gain enough altitude after taking off from a nearby airport. An investigation into the crash is now under way. They're lucky it was such a small plane and the wheel didn't tip I can imagine what they were thinking when they saw a plane flying at them

At first I thought the terrorists were attacking Australia's Ferris Wheels in an attempt to lower their national morale, but now I see that isn't the case. Misleading thread title, 3/10, would not recommend.
"Don't worry about us. Just get the damn kids out,"
why does this sound like something alan grant would say?
It was an ultra-light. I am more worried about the plane than the ferris wheel.
Fucking Al-Qaeda not even our damn ferris wheels are safe :suicide: Still it's pretty amazing that there was no serious injuries! Hell even the plane got stuck in it. Fucking Awesome.
Wow, I thought pretty much every crash with a plane, at speed, into an object basically killed the pilot and crew/passengers at least. This gives me an idea. They should build huge bungee nets in areas where planes are likely to crash, ie, the sea, near airports and sporadically placed around countries, maybe 20-50 miles from one another in a grid. These would be radar-visible to the planes. Basically if the plane was hijacked, the pilot died, or technical difficulties were experienced, a pilot or unexperienced member of the public could point the plane into the net, everyone would do up their seatbelts, and no one would die.

I'm glad everyone got out of this incident okay.
I imagine this being like the steam roller scene from austin powers, as ultralights don't fly very fast. [editline]1st October 2011[/editline] http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2011/10/01/plane-hits-ferris-wheel-i_0_n_990130.html another source, with a video.

So i see Micheal Bay's at it again.
Holy shit, that would have been amazing, and horrifying to watch.
Wow, first plane crash I've heard of in a long time that didn't result in horrible flaming deaths. What a pleasant change!
Man, I live in Sydney, Nova Scotia, and reading Australian news always gives me the jibblies.
Remember guys, that this was an ultralight. Ultralights are tiny and slow as fuck, some aren't even entirely enclosed, they also don't weigh much so it's pretty much expected that it wouldn't do anything. Sensationalist source for calling it a plane to grab attention, though.
See, it's practical solutions like these that we should be investing in.
How you guys see placing massive nets over water and land is practical, is beyond me
10/1 never forget
